Porterhouse Louder
September 17, 2015 - at The Porterhouse (Covent Garden); 330ml bottle shared with harrisoni and lagerloather. Coppery pour, I swear the bubbly head was tan with green highlights (3-). The aroma is urinal cake, alcohol and tons of overly sweet malt - and an overriding unpleasant burnt maple sugar harshness; not good. Taste is pretty nasty - acidic, harsh, sweet, intensely boozy, with out-of-place bitterness making it worse, not better - reminded me of those sugar/booze bombs made in the States by HeBrew, like Lenny’s RIPA .. ugh. Boozy, sugary, harsh ... at least it’s decently carbonated. Pretty awful stuff, I guess some time in a cellar would make this less offensive.

Porterhouse Dublin Pale
September 17, 2015 - at The Porterhouse (Covent Garden); keg draught. With harrisoni and lagerloather. Clear gold, bubbly, with a decent diminishing creamy beige head. Ugh aroma - diacetyl for days, so off-putting; a generous 4/10. Taste - sweetened paper pulp; huge miss here. Decent carbonation but an obviously nasty/harsh finish. Worst beer of the trip.

Porterhouse Oyster Stout
This was the St. Patrick’s Day special at the Foundry, served with two slices of Irish soda bread. The bread was delicious, but the stout was underwhelming. My first ’oyster stout’, and it was on nitro, so that helped. Not much aroma, certainly no oysters. Had that classic Guinness look to it, but it was thin and annoyingly a little bitter and a little salty. I don’t drink Guinness any more, but I prefer it to this. Thank the gods (and Sonny and Sally) for that soda bread.

Porterhouse Celebration Stout (2010-)
Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 15B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch unknown (BBF 15.10.17). AROMA: medium roasted aroma with coffee and chocolate notes. slight nutiness and fruitiness (dried grapes) with a slight sweetness. APPEARANCE: dark brown to black color with ruby highlights. Medium moussy light brown head with good retention. TASTE: similar to the aroma with medium roasted notes (coffee and slight dark chocolate). medium bitterness with an almost dry and roasted/bitter finish. PALATE: medium-light body with medium-low carbonation. no astringency. OVERALL: a good stout but NOT imperial (and with a bit more alcohol for the irish stout style).

Porterhouse Oyster Stout
Nitro keg at Craft Beer Rising. A deep brown colour with a creamy off white head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, some coffee, slight liquorice, a hint of saltiness and subtle caramel. Taste of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, some oyster, slight caramel and subtle liquorice. Light bodied but a smooth texture. A dryish, subtley salty, roasted bitterness in the finish. Been a nitro stout this looks great and is so smooth and creamy. It’s simple but adding oyster to a well put together stout really adds to this good beer.

Porterhouse Wrasslers XXXX Stout

Porterhouse Oyster Stout
I bought this bottle at Beerlovers in Vienna. I drank it with Fred in Lausanne. In my point of view, it is a nice stout, average, easy to drink for the beginners. The color is a nice deep black body, low carbonation for the style but it is normal, thin foam. The taste is overall dry, some oysters notes but it is not that strong that others oatmeal stout, roasted, malt, hop, a bit watery and dry finish.

The beer has quite a nice look. The color of the beer is a beautiful ruby red. The beer is quite clear. On top of the beer, a nice layer of soft, white foam is formed. The majority of the foam collapses, leaving a only a nice soft and creamy drape of foam. The smell of the beer is mild at first, but aromas intensify after a while. A nice aroma of alcohol and liquorice is unveiled. It is a blend between almondy alcohol and bitter sweets and a slightly sour liquorice aroma. There might even be a tiny hint of wild yeasts. It reminds me a lot of Brouwerij ’t IJ Struis, a barley wine from a Amsterdam brewery. Both have that extra malty barley wine character. The taste is absolutely that of a barley whine. The almondy alcohol flavour is strong. This is combined with a bittersweet liquorice flavour. I love it. It is a huge contrast with a lot of Irish beers I’ve had before. This reminds me more of Continental Europe beers, it doesn’t have that distinct Irish touch. But that touch wouldn’t fit this beer i think. It is nice this way. It shows the Irish can’t just brew porters, stouts and ales, but they can do more. Nice.

Drinking on Draft in Porterhouse Central. Not as much hop aroma as i would expect from the name. Classic American backbone with some caramalt in the grist evident from the sweetness and then coupled with a great hop biterness on the finish.

Porterhouse Plain Porter
