Kuhnhenn Double Rice India Pale Ale (DRIPA)
I am a wine drinker--primarly moscato. I LOVE this beer. I never thought I would say that I like, even LOVE, a beer. The hops are delicate and lace through the golden liquid like lace on a bridal gown. No after taste, just awe.

Kuhnhenn Cranberry Sack Mead
Bottle shared at Travis and Nicole's for the L-Town Cuddle Buddy NYE Party. 375 mL bottle. The pour is a pale pink color with a lack of head and some nice legs. The aroma is a little spicy with a nice cranberry balance to it. There is a bit of alcohol and a lasting sweetness. The flavor is a bit more cranberry forward with a nice spiciness. There is a hint of alcohol and a light honey sweetness. It’s not too bad, but not complex. Not too shabby. The mouth feel is a little lighter bodied with a decent crispness to it. The light syrup falls off a bit quickly, but it’s well balanced. I like it. 7 4 7 3 14

Kuhnhenn Smoke On the Water
From notes. On draft at Kuhnhenn at the Winter Solstice Party/Travis’s birthday on December 21. The pour is a nice brighter golden yellow orange with a thick white head and a ton of soapy lace as it falls down to a thin film. The aroma is not too bad. There is a nice heavy citrus on the front end of the nose and a beautiful hoppiness as it opens up. There is a balance of nice citrus and bitter hops. That’s about the extent of the enjoyable things on this one. The flavor is not good at all. The smoke and peat are huge. There is a bit of citrus to it, but this is like a damn rauchbier. Ugh. Why the hell would someone do this to a beer? It’s garbage. The mouth feel is medium bodied with a softer carbonation and a lingeringly citrusy and lightly smoky finish. This is not good at all. Fortunately, it’s only the flavor that blows. 8 4 4 4 14

Kuhnhenn Blackberry Eisbock
From notes. On draft at Kuhnhenn at the Winter Solstice Party/Travis’s birthday on December 21. The pour is a nice darker black/purple color with a thin ring of bubbly bone colored head and no lace as it falls down. There are quite a few legs as you swirl it. The aroma is nice. There is a solid blackberry with a hint of chocolate and a nice bit of maltiness underneath it. The alcohol is really balanced and doesn’t control either day. The flavor is much of the same. Lighter blackberry juice works with the malts and the light alcohol for a juicy, yet formidable balance. The smoothness of this one at 14% is dangerous. The mouth feel is medium bodied and a little syrupy with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly blackberry dominated alcohol on the finish. This one is interesting. 8 4 8 4 16

Kuhnhenn Magic Wheel
From notes. Pour from a 12 oz bottle at Kuhnhenn at the Winter Solstice Party/Travis’s birthday on December 21. The pour is a darker brown/black color with a thick bone colored head and a good bit of lace as it falls down to a thin bubbly ring. The aroma is interesting. There is a huge ginger and collection of spices here, but there isn’t a whole lot of sour. For a kettle sour, this one is lacking quite a bit. I would guess it a spiced ale. There is a bit of malt and a hint of cherry on the finish. The flavor is much of the same. The ginger is bit and the spiced underneath that help out. The cherry is light and clean and there is a touch of sourness on the finish. It works pretty well, but this is not as sour as it should be. The malts round it out. The mouth feel is medium bodied and softly carbonated with a lingeringly smooth ginger and spice finish. It’s not too shabby. 6 4 6 4 14

Kuhnhenn Simcoe Sillier Ale - Gin Barrel Aged
From notes. On draft at Kuhnhenn at the Winter Solstice Party/Travis’s birthday on December 21. The pour is a nice darker golden copper color with a thin ring of light egg shell colored head and a couple spots of lace as it falls down. The aroma is pretty good. There is a lot of Belgian ale happening here. The yeast, a light tropical fruit, and a decent gin with the associated lime are all present. It’s not overly done. The flavor is a little better. There is a hint of yeast and a kiss of malt, but the finish on this is almost like a gin and tonic. It’s perfectly balanced. There is a hint of lime and some auxiliary tropical fruits and I’m enjoying them. The mouth feel is medium bodied and clean with a softer carbonation and a lingeringly smooth gin and tonic finish. I like this one. 7 4 8 4 15

Kuhnhenn Cherry Eisbock
From notes. On draft at Kuhnhenn at the Winter Solstice Party/Travis’s birthday on December 21. This one seemed ot be toward the end of the keg. It was a yogurty pink/red color without much head ot lace left behind. It does look like there has been some seed and skin left on the glass in lieu of lace. The aroma is decent. There is a light cherry and skin with a big time alcohol on this one. There is a light subtle chocolate malt that comes through, but I like how there isn’t any metallic malts from being lagered. The flavor is much of the same. There is a lighter cherry and a strong alcohol. This almost comes off as a nice brandy or sherry maybe. It’s not too bad. The mouth feel is medium bodied and velvety with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly smooth cherry booze on the finish. This isn’t too shabby. 7 3 8 4 14

Kuhnhenn Dry Apricot Sack Mead
Chalumeaux with this 375 ml bottle share. This was wasnt what I expected it to be, we were expecting much more based on Kuhnhenn's reputation. Hard to find the fruit here, mild honey base with a bone dry texture. Weak orange blossom.

Mild booze hint and a very strange finish. Something here is not quite right. I have never brewed a mead but I can pick out the off flavor. Odd. Very unfortunate.

Kuhnhenn Blueberry Eisbock
Bottle to snifter. Pours a murkey unattractive reddish brown. Almost no head. Aroma opens up after a few minutes. Blueberry and pie crust notes. Light vanilla. Keeps getting better with every sniff. Soft. Taste is like a vanilla covered blueberry pie. Wowe. Light warming but not hot in the finish. Mid palate is where is where it really shines. The fruit just pops. A light carbonation keeps the beer soft on the tongue. I must say this beer is grate. In celebration of my promotion.

Kuhnhenn Double Rice India Pale Ale (DRIPA)
16 ounce prowler into tulip glass, filled on 11/4/2017. Pours fairly crystal clear pale golden yellow color with a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Nice appearance, despite lack of carbonation. Aromas of huge tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, white bread, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate pale malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, white bread, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, white bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Mild carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, grainy, sticky, and fairly resinous/rind balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is fairly well hidden, a mildly increasing warmth of 9.5% after the finish. Overall this is an amazing DIPA! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the ABV. Even with the lack of carbonation in this prowler, this was still a winner. Great mix of dank and vibrant hop complexity; with a really lightweight malt body for the ABV from the rice as expected. Just enough there to balance the fairly aggressive bitterness. A highly enjoyable offering.
