Hofstettner Granitbock Ice
Bouteille 33cl.

0.33 l bottle from ’Biertraum’, best before July 2020 (probably bottled in July 2015). Clear, very dark ruby with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Intensely sweetish, malty and moderately fruity aroma of plums, raisins, molasses, figs and caramel. Very sweet, malty and slightly fruity taste of raisins, plums, molasses, figs and some caramel, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, quite warming and minimally alcoholic finish. Full body, oily and sticky mouthfeel, almost flat. Really tasty, rich and saturating stuff, almost like a bottom-fermented Barley Wine.

Thank you tderoeck! 330 ml. bottle split post ACBF 2017. BBF 13.07.2021. Dark ruby brown, brief tanned head. Nose is sweet herbal caramelized banana, lager fish guts dominates bit much, brown banana. Taste is big on fish guts lager yeast, sugar, brown banana, yeasty, soapy, yeast dominates bit too much, herbal. Body is herbal lager yeast. Okay but I liked the basic version a lot more. Caramelized taste seems to be bit absent here.

50cl bottle pours a hazy brownish orange with small off-white head that lingers but leaves little lacing. Smells like a malty doppelbock. Aroma has lots of sweet malts, bread, butterscotch, some floral hops and perhaps some peach. Taste is on the sweet side with increasing maltiness in the middle, ending with a long almost sour finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Body is medium with slight carbonation. This is a well-balanced maibock worth revisiting.

Nearly cloudy brown liquid. Moderate sized head of ecru bubbles. Caramel and vinous notes. Sweet flavors with hints of oak and apples. Slight acidity thins it out in the middle. Lightly earthy in the finish and linger. Looking for a little more depth in this one and not finding it. 10/11

Dark brown with a thin layer of head. Sweet burned sugar, caramel and hawaiian bread. Nice long lasting sweet malts. Some fortification is apparent, but this isn?t boozy whatsoever. My German sucks but I think this is a steinbier, where hot stones are used during brewing. The caramel is definitely there but the ash or soot is not so noticeable. Really nice and worth trying.

Orange, hazy body, with a medium, creamy, lacing, off-white head.
Aroma of vegetables, cereals, flowers, honey, some dried fruits, some bread.
Tastes of honey, flowers, bread, dried fruits, some citrus, some booze.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes medium sweet, moderate boozy, a bit hoppy, a bit floral.

Nice one, while nothing special. The nose is a bit weird, feels unbalanced, taste is OK while not very different to a regular Bock. Not my favourite one from this series.

330 ml bottle. Pours a hazy, dirty brown with a yellow-beige, quickly disappearing head - some floating particles. Intense aroma of sweet malts, molasses, mead, overripe dark fruits, some alcohol. Medium to full body with a low carbonation. Light to medium bitterness with a (surprisingly) low to medium sweetness - nice. The flavor is malty - breadish, quiet tart, licorice, black berries, apples with a quite dry finish. Well balanced tasty Bock.

It is an experimental beer, not a Saison, only the yeast was a Farmhouse ale-yeast. Typical smell of the historical wheat Emmer and the local cgerman-austrian noble hop. Smooth, green vegetable, bread. Taste bit sour but only refreshing, malty and noble hoppy non a long lasting bitter finish. Clean horse radish, bit mustard. Refreshing and easy drinking beer. A bit history in the glass. Really impressing beer. It tastes like a German Export but 300years before.
