Gut. 10/12/11/12/9/12

Hofstettner Granitbock Ice
Dark brown in color almost no head. Big aromas of caramel all around and slight toffee. The alcohol is decently hidden. Flavors produce big caramel and light alcohol. Pretty one dimensional but cool to rate an eisbock, as they are hard to come by.

Hofstettner Granitbock
330 ml bottle. Pours a hazy, dirty brown with a yellow-beige, quickly disappearing head - some floating particles. Intense aroma of sweet malts, molasses, mead, overripe dark fruits, some alcohol. Medium to full body with a low carbonation. Light to medium bitterness with a (surprisingly) low to medium sweetness - nice. The flavor is malty - breadish, quiet tart, licorice, black berries, apples with a quite dry finish. Well balanced tasty Bock.

Sticky malty aroma. Muddy pour at this end of the bottle, Anna was clear. Dark fruity taste, figgy, sweet. Alcohol remarkably restrained, but it’s clearly a very serious brew. Smooth soft palate, slips down so easily. Nice one.

Bottle from Alpenhaus Deli. Murky brown pour, small creamy head, last for a while. Pungent, sweet malty aroma, not out of place, reminiscent of a doppelbock. Taste is also sweet, some bitterness towards the back, and plenty of burn. Instantly warming, dries out a bit at the finish. Boy, I’ve missed this style. What memories.

Hofstettner Neuhauser Herrschafts Pier
It is an experimental beer, not a Saison, only the yeast was a Farmhouse ale-yeast. Typical smell of the historical wheat Emmer and the local cgerman-austrian noble hop. Smooth, green vegetable, bread. Taste bit sour but only refreshing, malty and noble hoppy non a long lasting bitter finish. Clean horse radish, bit mustard. Refreshing and easy drinking beer. A bit history in the glass. Really impressing beer. It tastes like a German Export but 300years before.

Brown body, with a small, creamy, beige head.
Aroma of barrel, wine, ripe fruits, some leather, some berries.
Tastes of wine, barrel, sweet ripe and dried fruits, leather, some vinegar.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes wooden, vinous, a bit dry, medium leathery, fruity, medium sour.

Very nice. Lovely vinous barrel notes, that aren’t too heavy, drinks smooth for the ABV. Overall pretty much like a Flemish Red. Among the best sour beers by Hofstettner in my opinion.

Hofstettner Granitbock Ice
Pours a hazy, almost black liquid with a frothy, beige head. Aroma of cocoa and espresso, overly ripe fruit (blackberries, hints of pear), toasty caramel malt, soy sauce. Intense! The tour de force continues with a big hit of umami, light sweetness, and a pleasantly dry bitterness, entwined with umami notes, in the finish. Medium, soft carbonation and a full, creamy body finish this one off.
At this level of intensity, balance is key - and Hofstettner delivers. You almost can’t feel the ABV, nothing’s out of place. This Eisbock is intense, soft, and leaves you wanting more.

Hoffstettner 1. Sud
330 ml bottle from BeerLovers, bb end of 2017.
Dark golden to amber, moderate hazy body, with a small, fluffy, lacing, off-white head.
Aroma of honey, dried fruits, flowers, sweet bread, some grains.
Taste follows this pretty much.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a lively carbonation.
Finishes medium hoppy, medium sweet, a bit dry, floral, a bit grainy, subtly piney.

Good, but not that special. Quite simple, while with a solid balance and a well hidden ABV. More on the sweet side, but also with a good amount of hops. Slightly above average Bock, but there are better ones from Hofstetten.
