Ørbæk Kvickly Julebryg
Copenhagen 8/12 2016. 50 cl bottle from Kvickly. Cute slightly nutty looking Christmas Elf giving me the look on the label. Pours slightly hazy yellow with white head. Settles as creamy 1 cm thick layer of foam. Moderate lacing. Aroma is not particularly strong. Malty sweetness, sawdust and yeast with a small sour twist. Soft carbonantion and medium thick palate. Flavor is medium sweet followed by a quite pronounced bitterness. Lingering. Certainly a decent beer but apart from the Nutty Christmas Elf on the label it does not have much Christmas going for it.

Ørbæk Juleøl 2015
Bottle, as Ørbæk Juleøl 2016. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy but stable darkish tan head. Clear aroma of malt, chocolate and hops, with notes of yeast and touches of cinnamon. Bitter, hoppy and roasty flavour with fruity and malty notes and touches of coffee and chocolate. Roasty and boozy aftertaste with estery notes and mildly acidic hints. Low carbonation, but this is not a disturbance in an Imp Stout. Reasonable.

Ørbæk Julebryg Ingefær & Dadler
Nice creamy light brown foam. The aroma is a little citrus and ginger. The taste is initially most ginger, but after some time there is also a luscious fruit flavor that must be dates. Carbonation is gentle and leaves room for hard roasted malt whereby its status as a porter is achieved. Light caramel malt and a little coffee blends in flavor spectrum, but it’s ginger as the main character of this stout. If you don’t like the ginger little strong and tangy touch you will probably not find it exciting, but for my part is very delicate and exciting with a different approach to what a porter also can be. However it symbolizes not Christmas with ginger, so to call it Christmas beer is most likely overkill. I like it anyway as a tasty and nice spicy beer, but must admit that I can not quite clarify where it comes to be most benefit, at least not for Christmas. In temperate enjoyment comes ginger strongly forward so that it can advantageously be enjoyed straight from the fridge if you want just a little porter touch.

Ørbæk IPA Red Deer Christmas
Copenhagen 28/11 2016. 50 cl bottle from Føtex. A deer looking critically at you on the label. Pours slightly hazy golden yellow with big white head. Settles as creamy layer of foam - several centimeters thick. Lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma is sweet and tart at the same time. Sweetness from fermented exotic fruits intermingles with sour citric overtones. Soft carbonation and slightly thick palate. Flavor is medium sweet followed by medium bitterness. Aftertaste is sour and bitter. An IPA is not the most obvious choice for a Christmas Beer - but who’s to complain.

0.5 bottle.
Very dark brown color and a small, tanned head. Aroma of well... ginger, some citruses, not much else. Taste is simplistic - ginger and dark malts, hard to feel anything else. A medium body, a creamy texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is long and also marked by ginger. Overall the beer is alright, it only lacks a touch of complexity - whether it is flaws or perks we’re talking about, all of that is obfuscated by the oversupply of ginger.

0.5 bottle.
Clear, brown color and a small, off-white head of good retention. Aroma of spices, malts, compote, and oats. Taste of bananas, spices, some alcohol, caramel, and oats too. A medium body, a thick texture, and a very soft carbonation. Finish is shortish, sweet, a tad cloying perhaps. Overall a very mediocre beer; neither conforms to the style nor offers anything great in and of itself.

Bottle, 5.8%. Good spicy and caramelly hop aroma. Cloudy orange amber colour. Big stable creamy white head. The flavour starts off quite bitter with a distinct piney hop, perhaps a C hop. Turns more caramelly towards the end and actually finishes with a harsh bitterness. Starts off better than it finish, I think.

Bottle. 5.8%. Best before 11.01.18. Pours a hazy golden/light amber, with an off-white/yellowish head. Great lacing. Tropical fruit hop aroma; papaya?, mango?, hint of grape fruit. Hint of malt in the background. Flavour is a bit fat, with more tropical fruit hops. Feels a wee bit stale. Medium bitter finish with a slightly juicy feel to the fruity hops. A wee bit citrusy. Soft palate. Overall good with a nice hop profile. 17.11.16.

botle from menu cloudy orange, smooth white head. Very nice mild aroma with hoppy notes of pine and exotic fruits. Good bitterness in the aroma. Flavor is malty, some flowery notes, some pine notes, lots of flavor for a beer around 6%, a little bit too sweet for my taste, but a potent IPA, that actually does have a lot of punch and flavor.

Ørbæk Ørbæk’s Porter

500 ml bottle bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Looks: Opague deep blackish brown with a thin layer of dirt-like yeast sedimentsExplosive four finger head with crumpety beige foam which lasts for 4 minutes; Good sticky lacing with slight carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant sweet dark malt, with strong roastyness, rich chocolate, cocoa, roasted coffee, caramel, sticky toffee, strong toast, raisins, cream, sugar, dark bread, strong yeast and very light grass.

Taste: Mid to strong sweet full dark malt, with strong roastyness, rich cream, fresh toast, liquorices, toffee, caramel, chocolate, fair black coffee, floral, strong molasses, strong bread, yeast, lime, quite strong bitter hops and grass.

Body: Medium body. Slick and very creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Full dark maltyness in a solid background. Very creamy and smooth. Liquorices and rich cream are omnipresent, with black coffee and chocolate seems hidden. Good caramel and sticky toffee, so are the bready fresh toast with floral and strong molasses. Moderate lime to round. Very tasty and nice!

Hoppiness: Light grass in nose. Floral, lime and grass in taste; Bitterness is quite strong for a lasting, mid to high astringent toasty malty finish.

After Taste: Quite Dry; Very creamy and sweet bitter to mouth.

Comments: This is one of the few standouts from Ørbæk and with good reason: Great head and looks, layered and colorful aroma, very creamy and toasty dark malt taste, and ends with good limey hoppiness with liquorices. This is almost like a compacted Baltic Porter, with all the good bits shine with good effects. A great Porter and will definitely buy again!

P.S.: So this this my 1666th rating? Nice! Thanks for the Slayer “Raining Blood” video! :-)

Ørbæk Nyborg Kongebryg

750 ml corked bottle bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Clear golden orange colour with a thin layer of dirt-like yeast sediments; Two and a half finger head with crumpety white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Good sticky lacing with very fizzy carbonation; Fragrant aroma of full malt, with plums, vanilla, caramel, toffee, cream cake, floral, sugar, bread, Belgian-like yeast, faint lemon and light grass; Close to strong sweet taste of full Ale malt, with strong plums, caramel, liquorices, floral, strong molasses, biscuits, yeast, lemon, quite strong bitter hops and grass; Full body. Thick and slick palate; Mouth Feel is full Ale maltyness in a thick and sluggish background. Strong plums followed by strong molasses sweetness, floral and caramel. Some Bel-like yeasty taste lingers makes it almost like a Brune. Biscuity with light lemon to round. Okay but too heavy!... Hoppiness is floral, thin lemon and light grass in nose, and stronger in taste; Bitterness - hops and liquorices - is fairly strong for a lasting, medium astringent sweet-bitter malty finish; Quite dry after taste. Dark fruity and quite bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one is almost like a thickened version of Belgian Brune, with nice dark fruit and cream cake aroma matched rather poorly with thick sweet body and simple but plum malty taste. Taste like a combination of Strong Belgian Dark, Dunkel and Amber Ale, not sute what it wants to be. Drinkable but weird.
