Ørbæk Lakrids Kongen
12-06-2017; bottle; at home (bought somewhere in Denmark). The beer looks fine. It is a nice dark beer. The colour of the beer is a nice dark amber brown. The beer seems quite cloudy. On top of the beer a nice soft and slightly creamy almond coloured layer of foam is formed. Foam retention is average. The looks are almost porter like. Not bad. The smell of the beer is quite nice. There is a nice and smooth malt aroma, with some hints of sugar and sweet red fruits. There is a nice mild touch of sweet liquorice. Last there is a nice bitter hop touch. Nice. Not the strongest smelling beer, but it isn’t to mild. It is more delicate. The taste of the beer is nice. It has the same nice sweet malt flavours. There is a touch of sugar and the same sweet red fruit touches. The liquorice is a bit stronger. It is the nice sweet liquorice type. I like the fact that the liquorice isn’t extremely strong. It is a nice subtle touch to the beer, clearly present but not to dominant. There is a nice fruity hop touch, which gives the beer a nice bitter touch. The main flavour is bitterness though. But, the beer remains quite balanced. The palate of the beer is fine. It has a medium body, smooth texture and a nice medium carbonation. The finish of the beer is nice. It contains some sweet fruits, a touch of liquorice and a hop bitterness. All in all, quite a nice beer. Subtle, but still flavourful. Really not a bad one.

Ørbæk Fionia Christmas on Board
Bottle, 6.5%. Mildly farty aroma, some brown sugar. Hazy brown colour. Small stable off-white head. The flavour is mildly roasted, not sugary. Has a decent hoppiness. Rather bitter and astringent. Tastes like a hoppy brown ale more than a dubbel to me.

Ørbæk Rom Stout
50 cl. bottle, poured in to a Snifter. Pitch black with a thin, tanned head. Sweet, roasted aroma with gentle smoke, caramel, coffee, milk chocolate, sweet licorice and very discrete hint of booze - must be the rum addition. Taste is sweet. Medium to full body with an oily texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes slightly dry and roasted bitter with dark malts. Finally a good beer from Ørbæk, and impressive value for money - this was 15 DKK.

Ørbæk American Style IPA
Bottle. 7.0%. Best before 04.07.18. Pours a slightly hazy, deep amber with a light tan head. Good lacing. Spicy hop aroma with a light sugary/molasses overtone. Flavour is spicy hops as well, with malt/molasses, a light grassy/hay note, and a bitterness which somehow gives it a grainy touch. Finish is bitter with a liquorice-y hint. Mild alcohol burn. Lingering spicy hop note followed by a grainy note, a bit of grass and a hint of rubber. Overall decent, though a wee bit unbalanced; could do without the grainy notes. The molasses are well-implemented and fits well with the hop notes though. 10.05.17.

Ørbæk American Style IPA
When using the phrase ’The American Way’, it often means a little more of it all. Americans are known for everything to be big and flashy and thus (they believe themselves) better than anything the rest of the world can do. Ørbæk has been affected by this IPA. It is brewed as American Style IPA and therefore has a little more of everything that belongs to an IPA. The aroma is clearly citrus and grape. The taste is caramel and spicy notes of hops, where again citrus and grape make pairs in a blissful agreement. If you taste good, you also feel a little apple, pine needles and fresh grass. It is undoubtedly the "The American Way" - but then the party also ends, because while American IPAs often go directly into the wonderful world of hops Ørbæk leaves space for a sensible malt with flavors of caramel and fresh grains. Once again Ørbæk surprises me positively, and in addition, with a magnificent IPA bought at a cheap price.

Ørbæk Fionia Nyborg The Bitter End Organic IPA

Bottle. 6.8%. Best before 27.08.17. Pours a clear, deep golden/dark amber, with a diminishing, light tan head. Slight lacing. Malty aroma, a bit sugary, with dark fruit (plums), yeast, and a hint of ...seaweed? The latter disappears as it warms though. Flavour is malty with dark fruits as well. Creamy hint, mixed with a slightly tart note; giving a slight resemblance of rhubarb porridge. Dryish, malty, dark fruit finish, with light grainy and milky notes. Slightly tart as well. Overall okay, if nothing special. 12.04.17.
