Shortís The Liberator
Slightly hazy golden and copper coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of bright pungent hops with pineapple, resin, pine, grapefruit and citrus all noticeable - all with some syrupy sweet smells, a good deal of alcohol and some malt that seems to provide a nice balance. Medium-bodied; Biting hops up front with citrus, grapefruit, alcohol, pine and a fresh pineapple flavour make for a nice bitterness, while the smooth and layered malt provide good balance. Aftertaste has a bit of an alcohol burn at first, but the citrus and tropical fruits mellow that out and show a smooth finish with not only a large hop bitterness, but a fruity and sweet note as well. Overall, a nice Imperial IPA with a good profile and smoothish drinking, while still having a good deal of alcohol and a pungent hop and citrus flavour. Good to sample and well worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchantís in Dearborn, Michigan on 10-December-2016 for US$2,79 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 15-January-2017.

Shortís Juicy Tree
Clear with a very slight hazy golden and copper coloured body, complete with a small single centimetre tall off-white head with hardly any movement at all noticeable. Aroma of sweet resinous and syrupy/sappy notes with some bright hop bitterness from pine and grass with an almost cherry or sour fruit scent right at the end. Medium-bodied; Assertive syrupy and very resinous piney flavours with a lot of bitterness, pungency and dry malt flavours with some sweetness at the end from the resin, but this is all about the very dry, sprucey and piney notes that hit with bitterness throughout this one. Aftertaste is relatively straight-forward sappy, piney and bitter with some noticeable sweetness as well. Overall, an IPA-ish beer with a lot of spruce and pine, perhaps more than Iíve had in most beers of this style that works out relatively well, but not perfectly. Nice to try, but not very recommended for people who donít like bitter beer, IPAs or piney beers (of course). I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Grape Vine in Sterling Heights, Michigan on 09-December-2016 for US$2,99 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia about a month later on 14-January-2017.

Smell of hop, malt, sweet caramel. Drink from bottle. Taste of IPA bitterness, smooth goes well with hop balance. Doesnít taste as sweet as first smell, which is good. Right texture, not too slimy. Good IPA, but not top.

Shortís Cup A Joe Coffee Creme Stout
12 ounce bottle, stamp on the label says 10/31/16. Iím assuming thatís the bottled on date since Shortís website says this brew was a November 2016 release. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stuck around a while. Thereís also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like coffee, cream, roasted malt and some chocolate. I think the taste pretty much follows the aroma, itís all coffee, cream, roasted malt and bittersweet chocolate. I think itís more bitter than sweet, and thatís fine with me! Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís a bit creamy and coating with a good amount of carbonation. I liked this coffee stout, Iíll see if I can find a 6-pack of this one to buy. $2.79 a single bottle.

Shortís Bucktricity Kills
12oz bottle pours with a crystal clear gold body that supports a short lived bright white head. The aroma offers up sweet malts, sweet soft wheat, floral hops and then a light 7-Up soda quality. The taste delivers a blend of malt sweetened wheat, sweet fruity pear like esters and sharper lightly lemon citrus. It gets a tad soda like and yeasty toward the finish. Solid session brew but Iíd prefer some sour mash going on in here and a little less sweet.

Shortís Mule Beer
Bottle - the pour is slightly cloudy and a darker blond color with tints of orange. The aroma is ginger, like a crisp ginger ale, even has a sweetness like a ginger ale. The taste is strong ginger, a little bitter, notes of grass, and light hops in the background. Not as sweet as a ginger beer or ale, but a good ginger based beer. The finish is spiced and very slight sweetness, and light hops.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky orange color with a medium sized creamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was bitter and sweet with tropical fruit, cracker and pepper. The flavor was bitter, tangy and sweet with papaya, passion fruit and mango notes. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

Bott.ed Pours gorgeous cherry red rosť with a cherry white head. Aroma is lots of really nice sour cherries, orange, some mango undertones but minimal compared to the cherry. Flavor is tart sour cherry, bit of vinegar, fairly puckering, but sort of a dryer finish than I expected. Not overly acidic, but does have this residual cherry (and maybe mango) sweetness that isnít unpleasant in the end. Very solid. Not amazing, but solid for sure.

Shortís Spruce Pilsner
Very slightly hazy golden coloured body with a thin, half centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of spruce, pine, alcohol, light malt and a bit of mellow sweetness from earth. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong rich spruce and pine flavour with a lot of bitterness and funk with a little sweetness from sap or syrup and a kick of alcohol, earth and more pungent spruce. Aftertaste shows a lot more spruce, bitterness, alcohol, pungency, pine and earthy flavours with the lager yeast and body showing through along with some mellow sweetness on the very end. Overall, a decent beer, but too much of the lager shows through as a nasty, funky beer and too much spruce is in here for me without any roasted malt, which is nice to have it different, but it just doesnít work out too well. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchantís in Dearborn, Michigan on 24-July-2015 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington on my youngest daughterís second birthday on 02-January-2017.

Sweet toffee and caramel aroma, pours a clear red with a off-white head. The flavor is on the sweet side, with raisin and dark fruits taking precedence. 12 ounce bottle labled as just "Nicie". The beer is a clear yellow with a white head of foam. Good head retention. Citrus aroma, with a hint of coriander, pours a slightly hazy pale straw with a quickly fading white head. Very light body, with a very mild flavor. Thereís a touch of lime and tangerine, then the coriander and grains of paradise come in, with a slightly sweet wheat finish. Not a bad wit beer, but this would definitely be more appreciated by me in the summer.

Shortís Golden Rule
Organic pale ale apparently intended as an English style IPA, the original embodiment of the now omnipresent craft beer style so to speak, bottle from Plan B. Thickly ípaperí lacing, egg-white, dense and moussy, medium thick, stable head over a hazy peach blonde beer with vaguely greenish tinge; turns into a murky ochre with yeast sediment added. Aroma of lemon-scented hand soap, lime juice, powder sugar, gooseberry, green banana, home made lemonade, daffodils, lemon candy, star fruit, bitter honey, cucumber, fresh green peppers, bread crust, white pepper, shampoo, sweet crťmant wine. Vivid, fruity onset, lots of unripe, sourish gooseberry and dito peach, pineapple touch, sweetness remains very restrained and hidden in the background as a green banana-like presence; spritzy carbonation, minerally, somewhat coarsening the mouthfeel, which is otherwise light and supple. Cereally middle, bit grainy and almost pale lager-like in fact, but softened by a light caramelly íroundnessí; minerally carbonation and green fruit effects carry on well into the finish, meeting a green, fresh, grassy and floral hop bitterness there, drying, a tad resinous and wormwood-like in its deepest parts, releasing peppery and dried flower-ish aromas retronasally along with a scent of lemon zest. Quite refined thirst quencher, this one... I expected a golden ale but this is indeed hoppy enough to qualify as an IPA. As for that íEnglishí aspect: New Zealand has some great and unique hop varieties, but I doubt if the lemony aspect which one of them appears to have produced here, would be fit for an old school English ale... There is still, however, a floral and plainly peppery hop pungency to this which is not that far removed from the more bitter representatives of English pale ales - but I am using some imagination here. Whatever the style: refreshing, elegant and pleasantly drying quencher.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate cherry cough syrup, light mango, and mild funk. It pours a mostly transparent orangish-red with a small pinkish head that quickly fades to a minimal film outlined by a very thin ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose of tart cherry. There is some cherry cough syrup flavors in the middle. The finish has light-moderate lemon with a touch of mango and funk. Itís light-medium bodied with light carbonation. Overall, itís not bad, but I could do without the cough syrup flavors.

Draft to goblet at Shakespeareís Pub. Looks solid; a transparent watermelon Jolly Rancher with light pink head that slowly but steadily dissipates into lacing.
