500ml bottle [as "Bochka razliwnogo"]. Clear, pale yellow-ish, golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Weak, pale malty aroma with a mild bready and strawy touch, a very cautious emon dash. Taste is minimally sweet pale malty, a mild bready and strawy touch, minimally doughy yeasty overtones. Cautious and monotonous, but very clean and flawless.

Dizhka Rozlyvnoho (Rozlyvnogo)
Ukrainian pale lager, from a uniquely stubby bottle of 50 cl with the brewery’s logo in relief; officially referred to on the back label (in the translations that make use of the Latin alphabet) as ’Bochka rasliwnogo’ but this is apparently the beer belonging under this entry - always a challenge identifying your beer here if the name is in another alphabet... Gushed quite strongly upon opening in spite of being pasteurized - only the second time I encounter this in a pale lager (the other being an African one) and the first time at this degree of fierceness... Looks perfectly like any generic pale lager in the glass, with a lightly lacing, somewhat irregular, snow white, moussy head with good ’edge retention’ but quickly falling apart in the middle, over a bright and cristal clear, pale straw blonde liquid. Aroma of dry breakfast cereals or unsugared muesli, wet paper, old dry chicken corn, damp cloth, vaguer hints of starch, paraffin, rubber, grass and even some vague straw, faraway touch of tinfoil perhaps. Neutral onset, some restrainedly sweetish and sourish graininess as expected, minerally effects from fizzy carbonation though perfectly normal for the style, with the carbon dioxide accentuating the sourish side of the grains a bit; supple, thin grainy middle, neutral with no flavour differences compared with the onset - the same ongoing, thin, bland sweetish and sourish grainy flavour, with a very thin metallic edge to it but not nearly as metallic as I’ve had in many other, ’bigger’ pale lagers of industrial ’macro’ quality. A grassy note in the finish does appear, but very faintly so and hardly providing any bitterness at all; something thinly and subtly but oddly paraffin-like, with a soapy feel to it, is noticeable in the finish as well. About as bland and inoffensive as it gets even for this style, but I will nevertheless remember it as the strongest gusher among pasteurized beers I’ve ever seen... Drinkable and quenching, in all, but not more than any other of the gazillions of standard pale lagers made to more or less the same simple basic recipe all over the globe.

Poltava Zhigulivske Svitle (Shigulewskoe Svtloe)
I bought this beer at the slavmarket in Paris. I drank it yesterday after the work, at home in Lausanne. The limit of this bottle was november 2017. As usual, it is an average lager/pils, typical notes of the East countries. The taste is watery, malt, dry one, hop and typical pils bitterness, a little metalic, the workee beer by excellence.

1.5l plastic bottle from Borsch in Zagreb, thanks Ogi! Dark amber-red body with a tiny off white head. Dry caramel aroma, light breadiness, terribly light and boring, some strange vitamin notes. Dull watery taste, caramel and extremely light dry dull bitterness. Just... blah, flat, not enjoyable in any way.

Poltava Bochka Nefiltrovannogo
1.5l plastic bottle, from an Ukrainian store in Zagreb, thanks Ogi! Ugly hazy ochre body with a lasting big white head. Aroma... nice grainy honey notes kicked in the groin here and there by oxidation and cardboard, shame. Taste... quite clean grainy malty taste, vaguely sweetish and soft. Better than expected, just trace cardboard. Light prickly carbonation, lighter still bitter taste, feeling a bit too flat for my tastes. In the end, it has a whole slew of pros and cons, so the 2.5 is well deserved.

500ml bottle: drank on 10th May 2017 in the Nuestadter Markthalle, Dresden. Shared with the wife. Clean and clear light golden body, smooth white coving which soon faded to a wisp and collar. Grainy, corn like aroma, taste also lightly more maltier than hoppy. Refreshing enough, but not very exciting to be honest.
