Corvedale Golden Dale
Cask at The Roebuck, Leek (Titanic) A clear golden colour with a medium white head. Aroma of soapy lemon, grainy malt, some fruit and slight tang. Taste of fruit, grainy malt, slight grain husk, some lemon, maybe orange and subtle honey. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A dryish, husky, acidicness in the finish. Mainly fruit and a hint of citrus but mainly low quality malt and a bit of acidic tang. Didn’t like it.

Corvedale Ein Bier Bitte
Cask half-pint: hand-pulled in The Pheasant, Wellington Shropshire on 25th Oct 2016. Clear and clean amber body: good white head that gave some heavy lacing as the beer level dropped. Malty base to the aroma and flavours, yet there is also a deep hop bitterness in the taste as well. Really enjoyed it, couldn’t have more, I was on a mission.

Cask @ Exmouth Arms, Finsbury, London. Deeper clear golden with a thick creamy head. Has a smooth texture with a palatable nuttiness within a mildly malty ale. There’s a dryness about this too.

Corvedale Winter in the Sun
Cask in The Crown Inn, Oakengates Shropshire on 9th Jan 2016. Poured a light golden, straw colour: mini-haze to the body, on top a white head. Hop centric brew with a good bitter feel to the taste, the finish is dry. Decent enough blend, if a little ’one dimensional’ in flavour.

Corvedale Dark And Delicious
Bottle from Appleyards Deli, Shrewsbury. Appearance - it’s a gusher! So part poured with massive head. Really murky brown. Nose - hazelnuts and suspicion of wild yeast. Taste - nuts, malt, dry and uninviting. Palate - close to medium bodied with a dry crunchy texture and a long dry astringent finish. The wild yeast thing is definitely there. Overall - there is a problemehere. This is going down the sink.

Corvedale Fuggles Gold
Hand-pulled pint in the brewpub on 16th April 2015. Norman the brewer pulled the pint. Golden, clear and almost bright, on top a full and lasting white crown. Light hop aroma with some maltiness coming through as well. The taste is hop led, semi-bitter and semi-sweet from the malts. Nice blend and easy to drink. No strong or unusual features, flavours or character, just a pleasant pint to drink with a good conversation about beer with a brewer.

Corvedale Pax Ale
Hand-pulled pint in The Bear, Bridgnorth Shropshire on 10th March 2015. Most likely the clearest beer I have ever had from this brewery, golden and bright with a good, full white crown on top. Nice fruity blend of aromas and flavours. Nothing too strong or anything to make it ’stand out’ but a very pleasant brew in excellent condition.

Corvedale Dale Ale
Gravity cask at Bedford Beer Festival. Light golden brown, clear. Very little in the way of head or lacing. Malt aroma with little room for anything else. Maybe a bit of apple skin and biscuit spread. Taste is malt-led sweet with bitter edges. Pleasant, slightly fruity aftertaste. All in all not an interesting beer.

Corvedale Green Hop Ale
On the 3rd Oct 2013 my wife and I had 22 half-pints between us at the 35th Telford Beer Festival: this was one of those 22. Hand-pulled, it was very pale golden yellow with a good solid white head. This annually brewed beer is now at 4.2%, it started out as 4.9% and the new weaker brew has lost some oomph and is now a little bland in nature. Fresh and clean tasting, but not enough character or depth of flavours to make me want another. Hops, new crop hops give it a pleasant enough feel, smell and taste, but it just lacks a true hop punch or bitterness you’d expect from such a brew, sorry Norman, this isn’t your best.

Bottle @ Croydonia Tasting. Cheers to BLADDOCK for supplying this. The pour’s murky brown with no head whatsoever. Pretty ugly. The nose is not particularly pleasant. Fart. Some tangy chocolate-covered strawberry. THe taste is lightly tart. Sort of papery and faded. Little else, lacks character. Light body, fine carbonation. Overall, not a winner.

Bottle split at the Croydonia Tasting, 13/07/13, thanks to Jeremiah Bladdock for the trade! Murky 3 day old festival toliet water, orange/amber turd juice with a light beige head. Nose is unintentionally soured, tarte fruits, light smoke, touch of the balsams - infected! Taste comprises dark fruit, soured pitted fruit, toffee, sour dough brown bread. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, tarte fruity finish. Just about palatable (a moderate pour that its!) but not as it should be!

Corvedale Golden Dale
Gravity poured from the barrel (many pints and halves) in the CAMRA Tent during the Festival At The Edge weekend 20-21st July 2013. As the name suggests, this is a golden coloured beer: in fact it looked almost lager like in its appearance, with a bright, clear, clean and sparkling. White foaming head on top. The aroma was semi-floral hop with a spicy undertone. Taste wise it was also hop led, with a strange twang mid-mouthful that I couldn’t pin down, and I tried hard enough, having at least five pints of it over the weekend. Different in flavour to the other golden beers on offer, no citrus feel to this brew. It was refreshing and easy to drink: one of the best beers I’ve had from this brewery.

Bottle, thanks to Colin and the fish of darkness. It pours cloudy/murky deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is earth, light toast, caramel, wood, oxidised notes and faint jammy fruits. The taste is vinous, tart berry, jam, wood, earth, fruit, mild acidity and natural yoghurt with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A tad infected methinks. Meh.

Corvedale Normans Pride
500ml Bottle conditioned: obtained from Norman himself when visiting his brewpub. Poured at home into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 19 Jun 2013. No sediment appeared to leave the bottle: slight haze to my old gold/amber coloured beer, on top a full and lasting head of off-white bubbles. Norman, you’ve sold me a pup! On the turn, this isn’t right. Smells OK, malts and fruitiness fill the nose nicely. The taste however is ’on the turn’, not undrinkable, but not far off: this is going to go through me like a dose of ’you know what’ but I’ll not throw it away, I’m too mean. A Red Leicester Cheese and Branston Pickle roll helped me make it through the brew: well half of it anyway, I did have to drain pour some. I shouldn’t really post this: but this is the third beer I’ve had to pour away from this brewpub and I didn’t write about the other two out of politeness to Norman who I know fairly well. Sorry Norman, but you must not sell beers that are off!

Corvedale Dark And Delicious
Half-litre bottle bought at the brewery: poured into a UK pint sleeve on 13 Jun 2013. No sediment left the bottle: Ruby red to deep brown in colour with a good and lasting head of creamy foam. The nose was a mixed bag of sour fruit, burnt coffee and dark chocolate notes. The taste was also a strange mixture of flavours: all the stuff mentioned in the aromas (sour fruit, burnt coffee and dark chocolate) with a smoky undertone and some nutty features. I found hints of root liquorice in the taste too. So fairly complex and interesting. Body feel suits the alcohol level and character of the brew: all in all a very pleasant bottle of beer.

Corvedale Mild Dale
Hand-pulled half-pint during the 34th Telford Beer Festival at the Crown Inn, Oakengates on 4 May 2013. Really enjoyed this: dark brown in looks, with a creamy head in colour and texture. This is one smooth Mild: chocolate and rich coffee flavours just flow from the beer. It smells and tastes very, very nice and as a traditional Mild used to taste like. It was my favourite beer of the festival.

Corvedale St George’s Stout
Hand-pulled half-pint in my local Wetherspoons on 26 Apr 2013. Lovely looking brew: deep, dark ruby red body with a full creamy head (colour and texture), which left some impressive lacing. Burnt/roasted malts in the nose and taste: rich dark chocolate and ground coffee flavours with a semi-dry feel throughout. Really enjoyed this: I’ve not been a huge fan of Norman’s brews (the brewer) on occassions, but this was very good.

Corvedale Dale Ale
Hand-pulled half pint at the 2012 Shrewsbury Beer Festival on 1st Nov. At last I get the chance to review one of Norman’s beers: my other two attempts have both ending before they started, the bottle conditioned beers being contaminated and undrinkable. This beer however was fine: Light amber body, with a thin white covering on top. Malts rule the roost, semi-sweet molasses and fruit notes in both the aroma and taste. The finish was dry and hop bitter, a nicely balanced brew: a little watery or thin body wise but pleasant non-the-less.

Corvedale Dark And Delicious
Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival in October 2012. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear dark ruby red in colour with a thin off white head. Strong roast element in the long aroma along with sweet berry fruit. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malt complex gives a moist fruit loaf base with juicy berry fruit notes of bramble and overipe strawberry full in the mouth. Slight hop prickle noted in the short aftertaste but sweet malt dominates overall. Finish is malty and sweet with vinous black grape and dry chocolate flavours evident in the mouth. Reminded me of an Old Ale in some respects and highly recommended.
