Rossdorfer Pils
On tap @Be.Re. (Rome). Dorata intensa, limpida, schiuma media persistente. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. Buona.

500ml bottle kindly shared by djoeye. A pearl white head leaving spotty lacing. Amber coloured body, close to clear. Vague malt-fruity aromas, dried fruits, caramel and dough. Mild caramel malty flavours supported by dried fruits and yeast. Unbalanced and far from great (Tasting session with Finn and djoeye, Tromsø 07.09.2016).

Rossdorfer Pils
Bottle bought @ Landbierparadies. Pours tiny hazy yellow with a frothy white head that leaves some sparse lacing and trace on the glass. Smell is slightly malty and slightly floral with crackers, doughy white bread, hay, dried yellow flowers, minerals, lemon peal and hints of iron. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, slightly malty and floral. Mouthfeel is crisp, slightly sparkling, tiny dry, tiny astringent and light to medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with doughy bread, sourdough crackers, hay, minerals and lemon peal. Solid hoppy Pilsner with a rustic bread malt base I kind of adore. Enjoyable!

Bottle. Thanks to KyotoLefty (who schlepped several good beers back from Germany). Very fragrant hopping, perfume-like even, with some graininess. Very pale straw color. Light but very tangy fruity initial / grass springs up in mid palate / nice hop tingle in late mid and final. Thin-medium. Very nice flavor changes throughout. Crisp and clean.

Tap or gravity at the brewery. Cloudy brown-orange color with low lace. Doughy chocolate-caramel nose, warm crusty bready and a bit of orange and cherry. Unbelievable malt flavor: crusty bready, chocolate cake, peaches, cherries. Full but not heavy. Almost flat. Lovely. The first impression is positively mind-blowing. After that, simply great. Best dunkel I ever had.

Tap at the brewery. Fresh doughy malt nose, bready, a touch of honey, more peaches as it opens up. Fine low head, lacy, rather pale gold, it seems. Tasts very bready, malty, strong prickly hoppiness. Light fruits, peach and apple. Actually quite bitter and long-lasting. Full body, with low carbonation (I don’t think the wooden keg it real, however it feels like a gravity pull). Very fresh and creamy. Gets a touch of pineapple in there too as it warms. A fantastic beer.

Flasche (50 cl) vom unschlagbaren Hopfen & Malz, Berlin-Wedding.

Rossdorfer Pils
Fresh bottle from Landbierparadies, consumed in 2012: Crystal-clear pale yellow. Tiny-bubbled pasty white foam. Mineralic, peppery, damp hay aromas. Lightly herbal and grassy with subtle yeast notes. Tight carbonation. Peppery zing of hops harmonizes with a pronounced grassy tang. Malt is quite dry and doesn’t pack a whole lot of texture or depth into the watery body. Quite slippery and melony as well, with no grip from the malt for much-needed contrast. Scarcely a hint of lemony elegance in the center. Finishes wet with vaguely defined damp-hay pils malt and a zesty hop bitterness. Not picking up any glaring defects, but can’t say I’m digging it much. Malt could definitely use some refinement. Very straightforward, like most Frankenpils tends to be.

========================== Despite its somewhat misleading name, this beer is no Dunkel (dunkel means "dark“ in German, which this beer is not) but an Amber Lager/Vienna. As it is unfiltered, it could also be included in the Zwickel/Keller/Landbier category, depending on which characteristic takes precedence in the rater’s eye. But definitely no Dunkel.
