Gordon Biersch Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout
On draught at the Columbus brewpub. The beer pours a flat black color with a medium foamy khaki head that diminishes steadily to a film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, oak and malt. Full-bodied with an oaky bourbon character and notes of roast malt, vanilla and dark chocolate. The finish is moderately boozy with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Pretty good effort overall.

Anemic, artificial, malt beverage taste. A disappointing effort. This pales in comparison to the Ace Cider line.

Gordon Biersch Dry Irish Stout
Type: 0.6L draft Glass: Gordon Biersch 16-oz. Wallenstein glass From: Gordon Biersch Brewery in San Diego, Calif. Price: $6.95 Purchased: Jan. 23, 2017 Consumed: Jan. 23, 2017 Reviewed as: Irish Dry Stout Misc.: Menu read as 4.5 pct. at Gordon Biersch - Mission Valley, not 5.0 pct. like Beer Advocate This was one of the few ones at Gordon Biersch that I hadn’t had yet and I always love a dry stout. Poured a black color with 2-to-3 fingers of rocky khaki head when I got it. Light bubbles coming up from the bottom. Excellent foamy lacing. World-class thick retention. (Sight - 4.50) Smelled roasted coffee, cocoa nibs, semi-sweet chocolate morsels and milk chocolate. (Smell - 3.75) Tasted maybe better than the nose, getting dry cocoa powder, smooth roasted coffee, chocolate milk, semi-charred wood and smoky chocolate. (Taste - 4.00) Full body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, dry finish. (Feel - 4.00) This was very good. Glad I stumbled onto it. Would have it again for sure. (Overall - 4.00) 3.97 89 B+

Appearance: Bright red copper. Nearly clear. finger of tan foam. Nose: medium sweet caramel. Hints of rye. Citrus hops. Taste: medium sweet caramel. Rye spice characteristics and nice citrus hops. Body: medium to thinner. Lively. Parting thoughts: An interesting rye ipa. As previous reviewers have pointed out the hops and the rye don’t quite mesh.

Gordon Biersch Chum
Draft at Sprenger’s. Pale amber with even, diminishing, yellowy foam. Mild nose of winery cellar, generic malt, and some green bell pepper. Flavor is intense Wheaties with some sparky bitter and honed shards of fruity spice. Conservative carbonation pulls up the perception of body while a light, nearly metallic astringency pushes it down. Stupidly quaffable for 7% plus.

Gordon Biersch Belgian Single
Served on tap in a snifter Appearance – The beer is served a clear golden color with a two finger head of puffy white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a good some of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a biscuit smell mixed with a decent showing of yeastiness and some grass. Along with these aromas comes some sweeter fruit smells of pear, peach and apple rounding out the aroma rather nicely. Taste- The taste begins with a crisp crackery taste that has a nice level of yeastiness and a little bit of the lighter fruit sweetness upfront. As the taste advances the cracker converts to a slightly more doughy taste all while some grassy and herbal tastes come to the tongue. Toward the end the doughy seems to dry out a bit more, but other flavors of clove and coriander come to the tongue, leaving one with a moderately crisp and decently danker hoped taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – the body of the brew was crisp and light with a carbonation level that was rather average. For the style the feel was fantastic and made for one refreshing and flavorful brew overall. Overall – I quite liked this brew. It has a great flavor and is very refreshing all while maintaining a light and sessionable abv. Quite nice!!

12-oz bottle. Thanks, A! And thanks to mother-in-law for muling this back. Pretty cool treat, even if the Sharks didn’t so much tonight. Pours a clear medium amber with bright highlights. Virtually no head after a minute or so. Sour tangy nose, a bit vegetal, biscuity and grassy. Flabby medium body with minimal carb. Vegetal notes, grass, biscuit, a little sour tang that doesn’t belong. Kind of in rough shape here, much as I love the label.

Sample on tap @ the brew house restaurant in Baltimore, MD. Pours a clear medium brown with a white head of foam. Very thin. No aroma. Just a hint of chocolate and some roasted malts. Flavors are not very bold. Too thin and watery for a Porter. Disappointing.Even the waitress said it should probably be considered a dark ale rather than a Porter?
