Kona Big Wave Golden Ale
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vibrant golden color with an enormous foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet and yeasty with orange, grapefruit and a hint of pepper. The flavor was dryish and bitter with grapefruit, orange, a bit of yeast and perfume. Long citric finish. Medium body. Solid.

Keg - Avalon RSL, Sydney. Clear golden yellow with a small but mostly lasting white head. Citrus and pale malts with gentle spice and pithy, grassy bitterness. Light to medium body, crisp and firm mouthfeel with medium carbonation and a soft to moderate length and intensity finish.

Kona Big Wave Golden Ale
From tap @ Beer Temple, a few sips, but Im sure I had this back in 1998 when I spent a vacation on the Big Island. Pale clear yellow color. White head. Aromas of grain, light sweet, fruit, grassy. Flavor is light malty sweet, grainish. Light bodied. Clean but nothing too exciting.

Kona Hanalei Island IPA
Pint at Ivars acres of clans Seattle. Pours clear gold. Fresh citrus aroma, passion fruit right up there. Minimal head, but oddly for that quote highly carbonated. Bright fresh fruity taste, went well with my meal. A good session IPA.

Kona Longboard Island Lager
Had this in both can and bottle and find it to be a great beer to crush but less to enjoy in a more sophisticated level. Clear gold color with a short-loved white head of soapy foam. Light cereal grains with a light honey flavor. Perfect barbecue brew.

Kona Hanalei Island IPA
Checked another Kona brew off my to-try list at the Columbia World of Beer Festival 2017. This session IPA definitely comes across as a light-bodied and extra pale sessionable version of their more formidable Fire Rock and Castaway renditions, with minimal bitterness and a light pale maltiness with fruit flavors, predominantly mango, and some pacific hops. The strongest aspect of this brew was the rich tropical aroma of mango and guava, to be expected given that these fruits are utilized in the recipe. Although light-bodied, I was pleased to find that this beer did not come across as having a thin juice-like consistency, as it could have given the fruit ingredients. Concluded with a clean neutral finish. Not bad for the style.

Kona Big Wave Golden Ale
Pours a light gold with a small white head. Aroma is of malt and a hint of tropical fruit. The taste is of malt and real watery. Overall this is a beer for the summer and not for someone looking for a lot of flavor.

Kona Thrilla Vanilla Imperial Stout
First impression of the aroma is roasted coffee, followed quickly by strong vanilla. Hops are mild, providing just a mild generalized bitterness. Color is very dark, pretty much black. Head is large and light brown. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Body is medium to full. Texture is creamy. Overall I think the vanilla is too dominant and the base stout a bit on the simple side.

Kona Pineapple IPA
Aromas of pine, spruce and pineapple. A bit of bread. Color is a light amber, though more orange than red. Head is small and offwhite. Lacing is very good. Taste is surprising dry given the pineapple; hop bitterness is medium to heavy. Body is light to medium. Texture a bit oily. Carbonation is average to slightly lively. Finish is medium to long, ending with the pineapple. The pineapple is fairly subtle. Overall I like the dry, crisp, clean, refreshing mouthfeel. Not bad.

Kona Castaway IPA
Bottle @ home. Bought at the local supermarket. Nice golden yellow colour with a medium sized white head. Good carbonation. For an IPA it lacks the hoppy taste. Overall its a pretty middle of the road and boring IPA. There are so many better local IPAs in Holland so I dont really understand why a big supermarket imports these from US/Hawaii.

Kona Hanalei Island IPA
Btl pours a slightly hazy golden color with a big frothy white head that lingers, leaving a thick ring of lace on glass. Smells of tropical fruit, citrus and wheat grain. Tastes of lemon, guava, sweet malt, melon with a hint of vegetal in the finish. Light body, adequate carbonation, tannic mouthfeel and a mildly bitter dry finish. Nice easy to drink IPA. Not as fruity and fresh as the description implies but still pretty decent. One of the better session beers Ive had.

Bottle. A- Passion fruit, guava, subtle tangerine, wheat. A- Yellow color, clear liquid, white head. T- Passion fruit, guava, slightly grassy, wheat. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- This reminds me a whole lot of Avery Lilikoi Kepolo, a passion fruit wheat beer. The Avery beer edges this one out though. It is pretty darn tasty and would be a lot better on a hot Hawaiian beach instead of cold blustery Nebraska but I get what I can take. Not sure this is really an IPA, although they do call it a SIPA. More of a wheat in my opinion. Nonetheless, its a fine drinker and sits alright with me. Just wish it had a bit fuller body and the Orange and Guava came through a bit more. Not as juicy as one might expect.

Tastes of sweet malt, mango, orange, pepper and a little yeast. Light body, high carbonation, smooth, soft mouthfeel and a prickly, tart yet dry finish. It really doesnt taste like a saison. Bottle. Darkish brown with a beige head. Aroma of iced coffee made with brown sugar but not much milk. Nice coffee with some bread and spices behind. 7+ Medium bodied - just substantial enough really, lowish carbonation. Pleasantly creamy texture. Quite sweet with coffee, mild roast, caramel. Dries out a bit at the end, but its still a bit too sweet for me. After a while the roasted flavours come through a bit more, which is welcome.
