Keg, Smiths of Smithfield (bottom floor). Pretty dark black stout, creamy thick white head, certainly looked the part. Good one this, dry, bitter and roasty malts, and a touch of butter, light diacetyl maybe. Tangy. Unlike some other major Irish stouts retained a good flavour, very smashable.

Franciscan Well Chieftain IPA
The looks of the beer are normal. The color of the beer is rather reddish. The beer is quite clear. On top of the beer, a nice layer of soft white foam is formed. The bulk of the foam collapses quickly, to leave a nice creamy drape. The smell of the beer is nice and hoppy. There are nice aromas of citrus fruits, stone fruits like peach and pomegranate. There is also that nice and rich typical Irish IPA touch. Man, do I love Irish beers. Itís so different from and better than most Dutch beers. Less bitter hops and more fruity delicateness. The taste of the beer is the same. Nice delicate sweet and sour fruit notes, with in the back a hoppy bitterness. It sure is an Irish beer. Good reason to immigrate.

330ml bottle split between two of us at an Irish beer tasting session at my place on 11th Nov 2016. Despite visiting the brewpub in Cork (back in 2012) I have never rated any of their beers before. I know I had some when there, but no evidence of ratings anywhere. Anyway this semi-sweet malty brew was fine: red/amber body, off-white head. Red berries wrapped in caramel molasses and a woody flavoured hop leaf flavour, aroma similar in nature. Liked it.

Bottle, bought at a local store in Split, brewed at Sharpís. Waited for me for 7 months, as I forgot to rate it last December. Oh well. Coppery amber body with a small off white head, small but lasting. A bit fizzy. Dried fruit and caramel in the aroma, some orange too. Creamy taste, raisins, fruity, light mouthfeel, but full body for the ABV technically, honey and caramel, solid carbonation, not excessive. Not a bad beer overall by any means, miles ahead of that Doom Bar garbage, not superb, but if you like a solid, light malt-driven beer and donít have a better choice, why not.
