Dark red brown, decent head never completely disappearing. Taste complex but not overwhelming: slightly sweet, fruity malts at first, then dried plums, softly burnt caramels, some alcohol. Very good.

Brown colour, big head that soon fades to a thin layer that last all the while. Creamy tear lace. Aroma of dark fruits, chocolate, hazelnuts. Medium to full body, rich and creamy palate. Good carbonation. Taste is similar to the smell: chocolate, dark fruits, licorice notes.Good, but not the best from St. Bernardus.

Bottle at home. Pours medium brown, frothy off-white head, a little hazy. Aromas of spice, stone fruits, raisins/prunes, herbs, booze, and lots of yeasty funk. Taste is light-medium sweet, medium bitter. The yeastiness/herbal spice is really potent in this, much more than expected, and not in a good way. Body is medium and it’s quite light and lively in the mouth. This is very complex but just tastes off. Honestly disappointed. I’ve had this beer before and don’t remember it being so bad. Maybe a bad batch.

Pours dark brown with a thin cappuccino head. The aroma is mainly vanilla and salt. Some of that recognisable Belgian yeast flavours, some dark stone fruits, raisins and a little vanilla. I perhaps expected more from this tbf.

St. Bernardus Extra 4

Watou Tripel
Bottle from Merchants. Aroma is spice, yeast, clove, banana, some other tropical fruitiness, dry. Appearance is darker golden, light tan head, pretty hazy with some floaters. Taste is clove, spice, tropical fruit, banana, malty, caramel maybe, dry. Mouthfeel is medium body, light crisp carbonation, clove and fruity aftertaste. Overall, this is definitely a St Bernardus brand Tripel. Unfortunately, not the kind of Tripel I typically enjoy.

Świetny quadrupel (notabene mój ulubiony styl piwa). Ciemna barwa, spora piana, ale dość szybko osiada. Świetny zapach, da się wyczuć wszystkie nutki. Smakuje świetnie, naprawdę tak, jak tego oczekuję. Mogę polecić każdemu, w Polsce jest stosunkowo łatwo dostepny i w niezłej cenie, więc to naprawdę dobre piwo do zdegustowania/wypicia :)

Bottle pour into snifter in Brussels. Pours dark brown. Nose is heavy earthy/fruit belgian yeast. Hoppier than others in the category, but still dark fruit/dark malt forward. Complex flavor profile. Pleasant lingering finish, nice balance between biterness of the hops and malt backbone. Excellent.

Bottle from Fountainhall Wines. Pours cloudy peachy yellow with a thin white head. Nose has spice first and foremost then fruit with apple and citrus peel. There’s a sweet syrup and sherbet malt finish. The taste has the tart citrus front followed with pepper over a sweet malt base. The palate is soft leaving a little oil on the lips. It has a sharp moderate carbonation. The sharp citrus, dry spice and sweet malt canvas produces a nailed-on and often imitated classic. This is Witbier.

Bottle from the Elm Tree, Cambridge. Very dark brown with a nice big creamy khaki head. Lots of natural carbonation. Now, here’s the thing. I just don’t get a lot of aroma from this. Notes of figs, chocolate, marshmallows and smoke, but it’s missing that amazing heady nose that a good Dubbel normally has. The taste however is out of this world: sweet, fruity, and deep. A hoppy bitterness keeps the balance, and there are notes of salted plum in the aftertaste. Carbonation is heavy but not too overpowering. Excellent but maybe just a shade short of a top, top Dubbel for me.

St. Bernardus Tripel
0.33 l bottle from local ’Trink & Spare’, best before August 2018, almost a year old. Clear, golden yellow with a very large, extremely dense, stable, white head. Sweetish, moderately yeasty-spicy, slightly floral and quite fruity aroma of banana, vanilla, lemon zest, some clove and a touch of gooseberry. Moderately sweet, fairly yeasty-spicy, floral and slightly fruity taste of banana, lots of vanilla, lemon zest, clove, honey and some hay, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, rather yeasty-spicy, a bit dry and even a little sourish finish. Medium body, fairly effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Very well-balanced and tasty Tripel, not too sweet and with a refreshing, hoppy touch. Good!

Textura efervescente. Aroma especiado, a pan, herbal. Sabor frutal, especiado, herbal. Seca. Muy fácil de beber, sin tonterías. Rica.

W aromacie susz owocowy, alkohol, przyprawowe nuty z drożdży.

Pours a cloudy light orange with a good, dense and persistent white head. Nice lacing. Aroma has a delicate dough and/or white bread base, overcome by fruity notes (expecially citric, but also peach) and spiciness. Taste follows the aroma closely, with high sweetness (maybe a little on the high end even for the style), a slight hint of refreshing tartness and close to no bitterness. Quite on the verge of ’too sweet’, but still ok. Light bodied with quite high carbonation to bring a slightly creamy but still easy mouthfeel. Overall enjoyable and quite refreshing.
