Green Man ESB
APPEARANCE- medium dark amber. Lacks head. NOSE- little malt. Darth of hop. FLAVOR-  malt forward, also lacks much noticeable hops - thankfully. But it's also not particularly bitter, which is what I'm looking for.

Green Man Snozzberry
Rated from a 2015 vintage bottle (two years old) at B.U.M.B.A.; apparently a 'lambic style beer' which the brewer does not call 'lambic' as such because it is not technically spontaneously fermented, but the beers are fermented with cultivated lambic yeast strains and barrel aged. The name 'snozzberry' refers to a fictional fruit as quoted in Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" but is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the male reproductive system as well, to put it politely - so which fruit actually went in here, is something I was unable to find out... Anyway: thinnish, off-white, more or less retaining head over a lightly hazy, rosé wine coloured beer, pinkish with orange glow. Aroma of stewed rhubarb, unripe gooseberries, redcurrant, soap, stale sweat, wet wood, gypsum, old urine, crabapple. Sour, very estery onset, lots of raw rhubarb astringency, apple peel and redcurrant crispness, fizzy carbonation, soapy wheat backbone with a chalky note to it, acidity drying the palate throughout but not in a too onedimensional or unpleasantly puckering way, chalkiness lingers at the back, some woody tannins, sour berries, very fruity indeed - but still I was unable to figure out which fruit we're having here, maybe because I had this near the end of the evening as well, so my palate had grown a bit tired by then, admittedly. In any case a well-crafted American sour, not quite as complex as actual lambic and, in comparison with those, relatively 'clean', but surely an honorable attempt in not relying on simple kettle souring - instead going to great lengths in maturing the 'lambic style sour ale' on barrels and picking out the best ones for blending. Have an extra point for making that effort - and for deliberately not creating artificial hypes around your beers, which seem to deserve more attention, though I can only judge this one of course. For now.

At Hopishop 2017. Had the 2013, 2015 and 2016 side by side. Aroma of tart, raspberry, cherry and oak. Taste has acidic red fruit, raspberry, oak, tart and horseblanket. Very nice. The young version is more lively and the older it gets, the more mellow and raisiny the beer gets.

Unique take on a marzen, if not all that successful. Caramel and toffee abound on the front, but the use of ale yeast leaves out any major apple lager esters, instead leaving a wide open door for an unnecessary hop bitterness to take residence. Results in an overly dry back end that doesn't entirely mesh with the indulgent malt front, leading to a medicinal finish. Beautiful pour, though, orange-gold with a massive white head and tons of lacing. Creamy texture is oily and smooth, great for the style. Otherwise not a great festbier.

Green Man Trickster IPA
9/07/2017 (12 fl oz bottle from Mary... Thanks!): Super hoppy aroma with lots of pine, tropical fruit (papaya and passion fruit), and citrus; mostly clear golden color with a lasting off white head; malty and floral, tons of hop flavor but moderate to low bitterness, hop flavors of citrus, perfume, lemon zest, grassy finish; medium body, smooth and slightly creamy, oily; flavorful, but sadly forgettable and definitely not work the inflated price tag...

Green Man Trickster IPA
Crisp and light copper and honey coloured body with an orange tint and a smaller one to two centimetre tall light beige head. Aroma of crisp dry hops with a citrus and grapefruit kick along with some metal, a bit of earthy malt and a dose of pine near the end. Medium-bodied; Grassy and very citrusey flavour at first with a nice malt balance that shows some biscuits and bread along with a touch of yeast remnants and ending with a grassy dryness and very citrusey sweetness. Aftertaste shows the hop bitterness through the dry flavours with a good balance of malt and a touch of honey and caster sugar on the end. Overall, a nice and balanced beer that shows a touch of hop bitterness, some dry qualities and a bit of malts. Definitely better to me (more American) than the normal Green Man IPA which I tasted horizontally with this one, and worth picking up if you are in the region (this one, and theoretically the normal Green Man IPA to sample horizontally if you have the space). I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Grapevine in Fort Mill, South Carolina on 21-August-2017 for US$2,55 after watching the Eclipse, sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in Pungoteague, Virginia on 02-September-2017.

Green Man India Pale Ale
Crisp amber and copper coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of earthy malt, metal, nuts and a good deal of grassy hops. Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and very earthy flavour at first with some alcohol and metal noticeable as well. Aftertaste shows some earth, nuts, malt, pine and a little grassy dryness, but the hops show through along with some metallic off-flavours and a bit too much malt, but expected if this is an English-styled IPA. Overall, a decent beer, however, I sampled this horizontally with the Green Man Trickster IPA, which I preferred almost every aspect of that beer over this. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Grapevine in Fort Mill, South Carolina on 21-August-2017 for US$1,70 after watching the Eclipse, sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in Pungoteague, Virginia on 02-September-2017.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a large white head. Aroma is a full green hop with a decent wheat malt. Flavor is a nice balance of the wheat malt and hops with very little bitterness. This was a pretty solid hoppy wheat beer. You get a decent mix of hops with the wheat malt.

On tap at the new brewery. Clear yellow, loose white foam. It’s pretty much exactly what I think when I hear IPL - Very crisp, and clean, not overly sticky hops. I do get a bit of corn sweetness as it warms. Pretty tasty, and hides its ABV well - I would’ve guessed around 6% at most.

Green Man Trickster Too
Pours clear amber with a frothy eggshell head. Aroma presents orange, resiny and woody tones, promising an IPA that is at least above average. Flavor repeats the aroma while adding a tropical hint and more piney wood. Mouthfeel offers decent body and so-so fizz. Maybe this is better on-tap. Still, glad I brought this back from Asheville to enjoy in Atlanta.

Pours clear amber with a thick and fairly persistent golden-beige head. Aroma features resiny hops, zesty citrus and tangy tropical notes. Flavor turns the dial up on all of these while adding more than a bit of fresh hops. Mouthfeel offers good body if not a lot of fizz. Go Imperial!

Green Man The Dweller
Pours a flat black body with a one finger foamy brown head that faded to a thin film. The nose is heavy dark chocolate and roasted malt with some coffee and dark fruits. The flavor is pretty intense on the roast, chocolate, and coffee with a moderate hop bitterness. Pretty thick and viscous on the palate with light soft carbonation. The alcohol seems to catch up pretty heavy on the finish. Definitely a slow sipper kinda beer. A lot of flavor in here, but its maybe a little overboard with the intensity. Glad this is a 12 oz bottle.

Pours slightly hazy solar yellow with a frothy and ephemeral head. Aroma features wheaty, ginger, tart fruit, and subtle sweet malt notes. Flavor delivers all of the above while the cayenne pepper makes its appearance - hot, but not somebody-dial-911 hot. Mouthfeel features good body, hardly any fizz, and a tart fruity and somewhat peppery finish. Get weiss to the heat.
