Good roasty aroma, chocolate malts, softly sweet. Roastier taste, dryish bitter hops. A touch dusty, fairly burnt - a nice stout porter, and at a sensible ABV. Drinkability is good. Balance between sweet and burnt aspects well achieved.

Red Squirrel Ye Olde Black 1
Bottle bought from Potten End, chilled and drank at home. Poured with a very large tan head; too lively as noted by others I also had to spoon the head off several times; browny red colour; aroma of dough, frui/berries, rose and pine; bitter taste; fizzy mouthfeel; dry palate of fruit, coffe and chocolate. Strange, but intriguing flavours that work well together - too fizzy for top marks as that head needs attention.

500ml bottle from the brewer. Very dark brown with an enormous foamy tan head - in fact more head than beer, literally had to spoon it out of the glass because it just would not stop erupting. Aroma: surprisingly fruity (strawberries?), citrus fruit, hint of roasted malts. Taste: mild roasted malt, berries, citrus fruit hops, chocolate, hint of smoke, pine, sweetish flavour with a mildly bitter finish. Smooth mouthfeel, quite heavy carbonation, medium body. Nice enough.

500ml bottle straight from the brewer. Hazy reddish tinted colour with a creamy off-white head, good retention and lacing. Aroma: hoppy, definite hit of raspberry, light malt, funk. Taste: tart raspberry and moderately bitter hoppy, bready malt. The raspberry flavour is tart but not overpowering, and not too sweet like it might be if it were a lambic. Not really my sort of beer though, wouldn’t want another.
