On tap at the York River Landing. This would be a great beer to swap for Christmas pudding -- it’s sweet, malty, and faintly boozy, and just smelling it reminded me of Christmas.

Hazy pale golden body with a white head that laces the glass very well. Crisp and strong aroma of Belgian yeast, spices and citrus. Strong flavour of lovely Belgian yeasty notes, peppery spices, citrus and pale malts. Light sweet taste with a light to moderate bitter finish. Mid-bodied, creamy texture, moderate carbonation. Nice!

Bottle. Orangey amber in colour. Malty (toffee & caramel) and Spicy. Fruity (citrus, apple). Rather vinous (sherry-like) and a little syrupy. Alcohol level quite evident and very warming. Very sweet. Dryish hoppy bitterness in the finish. Too sweet and boozy for me. (2008)

Off white fluffy head stayed well on a finely effervescent golden body. Sweet caramel & honey aroma. Full bodied, minimal carbonation on the palate. Smooth, tingly on the back & a little cloying on the aft. Bitter sweet tastes of apricot, under ripe fruit, malt, honey & sugar. This is a very good Barley Wine.

Bottle. BBE date Sept 2010; Drank July 2009 - Red-Amber in colour. Vinous. Yeasty; lots of floaties and sediment. Spicy; cinnamon. Malty; caramel, toffee, roasty malts, hint of chocolate. Fruity; raisins, apples. Hoppy; peppery & grassy hops. Not surprisingly, the alcohol is quite noticeable. Sweet malty throughout leading to a very dry finish. (2009-07)

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear golden with a huge bubbly head and an aroma of yeast, sweet malts, lime, overripe fruits, corn, hay, fruity esters, nuts and grapefruits. Slightly hazy, orangey-gold coloured, creamy white head; impressive sweetish-fruity nose (peaches, ananasses, apricots) mixed with some yeast and a resinous hoppy touch; solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied, sweet-fruity, slightly alcoholic finish with a distinctive aromatic bitterness in the aftertaste. A great, well balanced, well quaffable brew.

A bottle from Privado in Guting, drunk at home. Aroma: candy sweet, with the malt coming through. Appearance: clear, dark gold, light white lacing. Palate: full-bodied, thckly sweet, soft carbonation. Long, complex but predominantly sweet finish. The booze in this one punches you in the face. Taste: too heavily sweet for me. I like the booze hit though.

A good surprise! The peach aroma is quite present in mouth, but doesn’t hide the bitterness and strong character of the classic Bush taste. Lower alcohol level than the regular one obviously, but still interesting, especially for a fruit beer. Refreshing, maybe not a favorite, but definitely a pleasant drink. Robe blonde, fine mousse peu persistante.
