Pours copper with flat white head. Aroma is quite acidic, harsh, berry sharp. Taste is, I don’t know, tarty, boozy, acidic. Rich and smooth body with soft carbonation. Thanks, I suppose, Leighton...

Bullfrog Le Roar Grrrz Mélange
Bottle. Pours slightly hazy ruby, medium creamy white pink head, dissipates fairly quickly, decent lacing. Aroma is huge on the mushrooms, fecal notes, berries, horse blankets, horse manure. Flavor is light tart, fully funky, hay, pasture, manure, light berry. Medium body. The mushroom and manure notes fade as the beer breathes and it ends up quite interesting despite what might read like a terrible description.

Bullfrog Crime of Passion
September 2017 - Theydon Bois' 20K Tasting at One Canada Square. Bottle thanks to Leighton. As 'Bullfrog Crime of Passion'. Amber orange, translucent, very little off-white head. Aroma has some acetone and cider vinegar, light bubblegummy apple notes. Body is light and smooth with low carbonation. Taste is very acidic, very rough, highlighter pen. Do not like. It's a crime of something, for sure. (2-3-1-2-1=0.9)

Bullfrog Le Roar Grrrz Plum
From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Corbet’s house on November 06. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a ruby-tinted golden orange with a thick white head that falls down pretty quickly with a couple spots of lace and a small film that remains. The aroma is pretty good. There is a nice tart plum right up front. I like the lingering citrus sour and a hint of funk before the barrel comes through and finishes this off softly. There is a good sour on the back end with a cleanliness. The flavor is much of the same. Initial sour citrus with a nice smooth plum that grows sour and finished off with a little oaky funk. I like this a lot. The mouth feel is lighter medium bodied with a bright carbonation and a lingeringly dry funk and oaky plum on the back end. This is solid. 8 4 8 4 16

Bullfrog Hopsphyxcitration with Orange
Tap. Zenos. Pours a clear light gold body with a small fizzy white head. The nose is a great mix of citrusy hops with a perfect orange peel accent. Smells very natural and fresh. The flavor is nicely citrusy and bright with a nice bitterness level, very clean and crisp. The orange peel has a really nice oily bitterness to it on the finish. Lighter bodied with soft fizzy carbonation and a lingering bitter finish. Good beer. 3/8/8/3/16

Tap, mad mex. Slight haze on pale. Thin head. BTW, it's not green, balderdash, that was the whole reason why I bought it. Smell is hoppy and citrusy. First taste is quiet hoppy fer sher. Decent co2 is surprizing. Not as bitter as most IPA, probably could be a strong APA. Medium length stronger bitter hop finish.

Kind of caramel, sweet and toasty on the nose. The bitterness is there, too, with some stone fruit flavors like apricot. Also, citrus and a relatively clean palate. Draft.

Bullfrog Le Roar Grrrz Framboise
Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. From MAR 30 2016. Rusted amber pour with a tall fizzy tan head. Aroma is tart berries, berry jam, funky yeast and soft oak. Hints of cedar and tobacco as well. I smell what could be misconstrued as a humidor at times. Taste is tart berries, unripe raspberries, funky yeast, spicy notes and wet wood. Body is medium with a strong, prickly carbonation. Light acidity and mild dryness during the finish. Ends with more tart berries, raspberry jam, funky yeast, yogurt, light oak and unripe berries.

At Hopishop 2017. Aroma of tart, acidic sourness, white grape and horseblanket. Taste has tart, horseblanket, dry white grape, oak and a really dry tart finish. Not bad, but needs some more refinement.

Bullfrog Le Roar Grrrz
There is one last fronteer the American - and by extension now global - craft beer movement has yet to conquer, and that is traditional lambic and its offspring. Very serious attempts have been made recently, with Jester King's Spon as the most credible one from what I heard (I'm still trying to hunt down a bottle) and out of respect for these specific activities, a 'méthode traditionelle' label has been installed, under which American craft breweries have started trying to imitate lambic, geuze and traditional fruit lambic as closely as possible without explicitly using the terms 'lambic' and 'geuze' to identify their products style-wise. This Le Roar Grrrz, with the last part of the name mimicking the Dutch pronunciation of 'geuze', predates this very serious approach - and apparently managed to enter the top 50 of geuzes here. Very eager to put this one to the test, being the lambichead that I am... Thick and coarse, tightly lacing, snow white head, initially clear and deep, pure 'old gold' colour. Quite idiosyncratic, but attractive aroma of old sour apples, unripe green raspberries, lime flesh, very old and oxidized white wine, old sweat, lemon peel, dry wood, horseradish, hay. Sour onset, green apple, gooseberry and more pungent lemony acidity, touch of white vinegar even, over a somewhat soapy wheaty background, dry and astringent main character, bit wry, woody tannins in the finish as well as an outspoken, long-lasting, spicy hop bitterness, bit old grapefruit peel-like even, more explicit than normal for any kind of lambic. This is quite a unique beer, an approximation of a geuze, but altogether clearly different as well and lacking in the depth, estery complexity and refinement of a true 'oude geuze'. Not sure if this brewery supports that new 'méthode traditionelle' movement and intends to meet its requirements, but if not, I'd recommend them to do so: approaching geuze with American pseudo-lambic will evidently lead to pseudo-geuze, but I reckon this can be regarded as a first step in a potentially promising new chapter in the American beer revolution. And in that chapter, Bullfrog may function as more than just a forerunner - it may well be able to write an important part of it. Hugely interesting from a 'philosophical' point of view and most enjoyable to sour beer lovers, but as others have stated here before me, this is not really a geuze.

Bottle 7/272 from 2013 shared. Almost clear golden with white head and a few tiny floaters. Gooseberries, white grapes, funk, hay, soft matches, a bit of wood glue, pine wood, lemon, lots of aromatic herbs, more pine. Wow this has lots of fresh aromatic wood which is a bit unusual but quite pleasant. Medium sour, under medium bitter and light sweet. Medium bodied. Very nice but a classic Belgian geuze it's not.

Sampled thanks to the overwhelming generosity of Leighton, bottle 117/408, pours a dark orange with some clumpy, white head. Nose is straight salad dressing, celery, pomegranate, lots of vinegar. Flavor has sweetened vinegar, like Mirin with orange slices in it, there's a strange strawberry note coming through. Finishes very hot, very acetic.

The aroma was cloudy yellow with a medium sized off white head that faded and left minimal lacing. The aroma was butterscotch, sugar and a bit of tropical fruit. The flavor was butterscotch, bitter and tart in the middle then faint vague fruit. Medium length finish. Medium body. Not good.

Bottle split at the 20K, big thanks to Leighton for this beast ... it won the worst (non lager / shandy style) beer award at the tasting and was a close 2nd for my 20K rake behind the Tramp Cider, 13/09/17. Murky orange amber with a head that soon collapses to nothing. Nose is tarte citric flesh, piss, varnish, harsh and full on balsamics. Tate comprises salt and vinegar crisps, acidic bite overpowering background fruit esters, sharp, stinging, harsh piss after a week on the ale, apple core. Medium bodied, big throat scrape, acidic fruit balsamic rise to the curtain call. Battery acid special but no Lambeek Wants Blood !

Bottle shared in London, especially for cloin's 20k - picked up in a high-profile trade in 2015. Pours unclear orange-gold with minimal head. The nose holds old wood, vinegar, glue, aged orange. Light sweet flavour with moderate vinegar character, some pickle juice, brine, lemon, dry wood. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Finishes with some sharpness, more acetic twang, prominent vinegar, lemons. It's not good, but honestly I was hoping it would be worse. It is comical, but it doesn't hurt to drink.

The taste is dry, tart, vinegary, bit hit of acidity, salt & vinegar crisp, balsamic, sherbet, pickled onion monster munch and tang with an acidic finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Bad, but not the worst for style.

Bullfrog Le Roar Grrrz Blueberry
Sigh. Lesson learned the hard way with these Grrz $40 bottles...another mediocre offering. Pours semi clear violet red with small head. Nose and taste have musty wet basement, subtle fruit, weird moldy dankess, mixed with acetic vinegar tartness and old stale berry. Low carb, flabby lifeless mouthfeel. For $15/750ml this would be pretty unimpressive, for $40 it’s a joke. Never buying Bullfrog again.
