The aroma is malt and presumably sansho. The flavour is light sweet and herbal, with a fresh, crisp, juicy sansho, herbal, light spicy hop palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Really unusual and very tasty. I wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Would order again. Thursday, December 8, 2022

The aroma is roasty malt, light chocolate. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a smooth, somewhat light, roasty, chocolate, light coffee, light liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. The staff almost died when I said give me one from the shelf and not the fridge! colui72	3.7 Iwate Kura Red Ale Floral and earthy hops on caramel and toffee malty notes. Clear red-copper, beautiful golden head, creamy and with excellent retention. Good laces on the glass. A pretty beer! Moderate bitterness, with strong caramel and toffee, toasted bread. Hops do bittering and add some earthy, fruity and floral notes. Balance is bitter, on the malty side, although the hops are evident. Light bodied but creamy and medium carbonated. Good session ale. Haven't had an Irish Red Ale for ages, probably was a nitro Kilkenny. Another style going to be murdered by lactose pastry assassins that deserve to be rescued. Wednesday, March 31, 2021

Medium retention and some legs on the glass. Tastes roasty bitter, chocolate, coffee, toasted burnt bread. Mild fruity hops to sweeten this oven. Dry finish. Dark brown going to black, a big beige head, creamy and with high retention and beautiful laces. Tastes umami, with roasted grain, dark fruits, coffee and chocolate. Strictly traditional, with roastiness leading to a very dry finish. Smooth, medium bodied, low-medium carbonation. Not an exciting beer for many, but a very classic (as often in Japanese beer) Oyster Stout, roasty, umami and easy to drink. Very good! Monday, March 8, 2021
colui72	3.9 Iwate Kura IPA Trying out some Japanese beers that finally are making their way outside Japan. Generally speaking the look for classic styles, and this is a textbook example of English IPA. Aroma has piney, citrusy (orange peel or marmalade) and earthy hops, floral notes. Ale malts are quite evident there, with a biscuity, caramelly scent. Crystal clear amber, visible carbonation. A medium-large, fluffy, everlasting white head, pretty laces. Tastes as expected from its aroma, with medium-high bitterness, evident malts with caramel notes. Hop-forward with piney, resinous, citrusy and earthy flavours. Dry finish. Very smooth and creamy, no harsh from the hops or alcohol heat. High carbonation and light-medium bodied. As I said, classic English IPA, perfectly made. Not the most commercial of the styles nowadays, but what this style is supposed to be. So, if you like English IPA, go for it. If you expect a NEIPA, stay away from it. Saturday, March 6, 2021

KyotoLefty	3.6 Tohoku Damashii SMaSH Pale Ale 2020 Autumn Tohoku Damashii collaboration, made this time at Iwate Kura. Tap at Malt Heads. Deep, hazy gold with a low, thick head. Rich malt nose, tropical, lemon, slightly oaky Sabro hops. Rich malt flavor, nice sweetness with bread and honey. Malt seems rather English as usual for them. Enjoyable and unique. the_beergery	3.5 Iwate Kura Kaki No Stout (Oyster Stout) 330 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown black with a finger of tan froth with poor retention. Aroma is typical for a stout, a whiff of lightly roasty malts, paired with smooth chocolate notes. Taste is very similar, chocolate dominating for most part in a rather oily and smooth medium bodied package with low carbonation.
