Springfield Greene Ghost
Taster pour at Wages Brewery. Appearance is murky yellow-brown, good lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, citrus. Taste as aroma. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thick texture, average carbonation, finish mix of sweet and bitter. Overall, a fair amount of complexity here. Good stuff.

From bottle. Hazy appearance and a funky citrus, pine aroma. As an IPA, it’s not overly bitter and has almost a meaty taste and a funky aftertaste. Not really a good IPA if that’s what you’re looking for.

Sampled at Gregwilsonstl’s. Very dark brown. Not a big aroma. Earth, grain, roast and some kind of hop that gives an off aroma. That translates to the flavor but it is lighter. Earth and some kind of spice. Or maybe that is an off flavor. This doesn’t work. Maybe too old?

Springfield Quencher in the Rye
Draft at the brewpub in Springfield, Missouri. Poured into a unique glass that is somewhere between a Nonic and a Willebecher. The pour is a clear golden with smallish white head that leaves behind nice coating lace. The aroma is bright citrus, tropical fruit hop and a the spicy rye. The taste is the citrus hop floral, fresh and bright, a bit of herbal and finished with mild spice rye. Nice integration of flavors. The palate is light to medium bodied with soft natural carbonation and a clean herbal finish. Solid.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice roastnwitha good amount of coffee mixed in. Flavor is again decent mix of roasted malt and coffee. Pour is a red-ish with a small white head. Aroms has a definate hop presence with some heavy sweet malt. Flavor is a soild hop but also a oily malt that turns out to be not as sweet as I thought it would be. Finish is a decent malt and hop combo without one overpowering the other too much. Solid hoppy amber.

GABF 2015. Dark brown. Well roasted. I am not picking up the lager yeast I expected. Solid, dry grain and malt. Very drinkable, and the malt is not burned or overly roasted where so many dunkels seems to blur the line with schwarzbier.

Pours a amber, and dare I say it, red color. It is quite pretty. About one finger ivory color head. Doesn’t last long, but excellent lacing.

Aroma is very hoppy. Some breadiness. Not a lot to say about the aroma. It’s hoppy....

Taste is hoppy, but man, it’s good. It’s very hoppy, but not real bitter. Hop flavors are crazy in there; citrus, floral, piney. But it’s not really bitter, it’s not really sweet. It’s somewhat similar to an APA. Hard to desribe the taste. Bready, maybe some toffee.

Mouthfeel is good. It’s drinkable. Smooth and dry. Medium body. Finishes slightly bitter.

Overall, I’m not super fond of red ales but I could totally drink this anytime. This is well done.

Springfield Paul’s Pale Ale
Pours a amber orange color. About one finger head. Some retention. Nice lacing.

Aroma is grassy hops. A little citrusy. A little roasted malt. A little nutty, and a little fruity. Overall, it’s not that great. It’s mostly hoppy and citrusy, that other stuff is subtle and you have to dig around to find it.

Taste is a little hop forward. Yeah, the malts are making a strong show, but hops win out. It’s close to the hop profile of it’s far east brother. So as for taste-hops, citrus, and maybe some pine.

Mouthfeel is quite dry. Medium bodied. It’s sweet to start, but the bitterness kicks in late, and lingers. It is an interesting mouthfeel.

Overall, I find this a little boring. I would drink it again, but it’s not one that I would say, ’Hey, I haven’t had that in a while!’ and then buy it. If I were offered this or a Sam Adams whatever, I would probably take the Sam Adams. If I were offered this or a Bud Light, I’d probably take this.

Bottle pours deep amber hue with a small soapy eggshell head with sparse lacing. Nose is earthy minerals I guess are hops. Smells good actually but not as hop forward as I would like. Big earthy bitterness here lots of toasted malt. Like this but seems like a clone beer from the Rogue Hoppy Amber they usedto make. Lots of woody hops earthy and slightly metallic finish. All in all a solid brew for the style.

For a beer that has a lot thrown in, I was disappointed that there was no aroma. Good dark brown color but the palate was way too light. Flavors weren’t bad with a mix of roasted malt and chipotle peppers. Just needed more substance.
