Squatters Chasing Tail Golden Ale
Rating #2621 - 2016.06.24 - Draught at Squatters in SLC. Clear golden pour with a fairly frothy head. Low-medium carbonation. Aroma is grassy, hint of sweet malt. Taste is more of the same, a plain jane weak golden ale with very little hop profile to speak of. Bland and uninspired.

Squatters Hop Rising Double India Pale Ale
Pour is a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma is a pine hop with a strong caramel malt backbone. Flavor is pretty much all malt with very little hop. Everything I hate with some IPA’s can be found in this beer. Way too heavy malt bill. Hops that have faded or can’t stand up to the malt. The best by date on the bottom of the can is 10/27/17, there is no way that can be correct. This tastes poor in the first week of August in the middle of October this could actually be worse? The alcohol is hidden well, that’s all the good I can say about this.

Bottle. Pours with the perfect visuals. Pitch black, with a tan head that fades to tan. The nose is superb, rich with toasty goodness. Thick with all the appropriate flavors -- dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, warm brownies. Delish. (#6735, 8/5/2017)

From a can. Pours thick and black with a tan head. The head is foamy, modest lacing. Aroma is primarily bacon and bitter chocolate. Taste is bittersweet, trending bitter at the finish. Amid subtle cherry hints are plenty of smoke, bacon, and chocolate. Body is thick and chewy. A rich and complex brew.

Squatters American Wheat Hefeweizen
At Cowboy’s Smokehouse, Panguitch. Pours hazy golden with a small, foamy, white head. The rather weak aroma contains wheat, grain, citrus and light clove. It tastes light sweet and light bitter with a medium long grainy finish. Light body, watery texture, soft carbonation. Lacking some real banana in the aroma. Unconvincing.

Can. It poured a golden color with a white head. The aroma was of pine, caramel, tangerine and hops. The taste was similar to the aroma with more pine, caramel, tangerine, hops and grapefruit. It had a medium body with a mild bitter finish. Good stuff.

Another beer I tried at the 3rd Cotteridge Tasting on 20th May 2017. Somehow got here from ’Sledutah’, cheers mate. Beige head on a murky brown bodied pour. Bit of a sour Puss of a beer, tart and sharp red berries in both the nose and taste. Didn’t read the label, so wasn’t expecting a Belgian style Oud Bruin. Not a big fan of the style, but this was fine once I realised what I had in front of me.

Dark red amber pour. Looks great, and I like the hops used, it’s just not a big enough beer in the flavor or nose to stand up well to being on nitro. Everything muted, earthy and fruity. OK.

Type: 12-oz. can Glass: AleSmith Barrel-Aged Reserve snifter From: Bier:Thirty Bottle & Bistro in Boise, Idaho Price: $4.99 Purchased: April 21, 2017 Consumed: May 6, 2017 Reviewed as: Russian Imperial Stout Misc.: Enjoy by July 30, 2018 Picked this up with four others at Bier:Thirty on a recent work trip to Boise after getting a random 6-pack of cans earlier at Whole Foods. Looked quickly on Untappd to see that it had good ratings and picked it up. It was that quick. Poured a pitch black oily color with two fingers of frothy tan head. Very light bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Decent lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 3.75) Lots of different notes in the nose. Got oak, molasses, barley, malt chocolate, cocoa, dark fruits, plum, toffee, black licorice, anise and vanilla cream. (Smell - 3.75) . Taste mainly followed the nose. Got roasted barley lead the way, followed by oak, molasses and milk chocolate. Vaguely reminded me of Founders Dirty Bastard. Also got toasted toffee, plum, earthy raisins, dark fruits, cocoa nibs, hints of anise and caramel syrup. Could taste that that booze early, but it mellowed late. (Taste - 4.00) Full body. Slick texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth, warming finish. For sure the best part of the beer. (Feel - 4.25) This was a solid beer overall. Would have it again for sure. (Overall - 4.00) 3.95 89 B+

Delicious double IPA. Amber gold in color. Major caramel notes, sweet, and very drinkable. This beer will easily put you under the table if you let it, and trust me, you wanna let it. If this is any indication, Squatters is a brewery to keep an eye on...

Squatters Outer Darkness
Outer Darkness has a thin, tan head, a dark brown, nearly black appearance, some glass lacing, and a bit of brown, around the edges. Aroma is of rich, dark-roasted malt, brown bread crust, and some chocolate. Taste is of those elements, with no unpleasant burnt or charred features. Mouthfeel is heavy and velvety, and Outer Darkness finishes rich and sip-able. RJT

Definitely getting molasses and licorice from the aroma, also chocolate and a bit of spice. Nice jet black color with a brown head. Tastes a little watery, some sharp roast up front and more of the molasses/licorice, but odd tasting. Thin palate, overall it was just okay. I probably wouldn’t drink this again.

Very nice floral, hoppy, mgrapefruit nose. Amber golden very clear, medium amount of off white creamy head. Sweet malt and grain, orange peel, roasted, caramel. Plate is smooth and velvety. Not too bold. Hops are fresh and smooth. Overall, smooth and easy to drink for a hoppy and alcoholy beer. You don’t notice the 9%. Sweetness balances out the hops.
