Renaissance Stonecutter Scotch Ale
Bottle, at Duggfrisk. A dense, pale beige head forms over an unclear brown body. The aroma has lots of sweetish toffee, with dirt and some chocolate and coffee. It’s full-bodied and quite sweet on the palate, smoothly carbonated, and with toffee and dark sugary sweetness dominating. Some chocolate and coffee chiming in, and there’s a good bitterness as well. Lasting sweet, malty finish. A really pleasant scotch. 160820

Renaissance Marlborough Pale Ale (MPA) (2013 & Onwards)
Bottle, at Duggfrisk. It pours an unclear, dark orange colored body and a dense, beige head. Lots of pine cones in the aroma, some tropical aromas and sweetish malts. Citrus zest too. There’s a good bitterness in the mouth, with malty sweetness to balance it, still it feels rather dry, especially towards the finish. Full body and a nice carbonation, with orange zest, pine cones and some tropical fruits. Long bitter finish. Delicious. 160820

Renaissance Stonecutter Scotch Ale
Bottle from beer hawk. It is a red wine of a beer, deeply flavourful and sour. Spicy on the palate. I find it an uncomfortable half way house though of sour and barrel aged. Aroma is very much like port (wine, raisin, molasses). Nice but wouldn’t get again; no doubt exemplary for its style.

Renaissance Enlightenment Series Black the RIPA
Pours a slightly hazy, very deep brown body with a creamy, dense, light tan head that sticks to the glass and ends up as a fully lasting layer. Very strong aroma with a close to perfect hop/malt balance. Sweet fruits, some tropical fruits, dark caramel, milk chocolate and roasted malt, with some pine in the back. Strong flavour of chocolate, coffee, dark roasted malt, citrus, pine, resin, generic fruits with hints of tropical fruits and rye bread. Light sweet taste with a long-lasting rather heavy bitter finish. Mid-bodied, dry and quite lively carbonation. Nice!

Renaissance Enlightenment Series Collision Course IPL

330 ml can bought at HK Brewcraft in Central.

Looks: Clear straw golden orange colour with a faint trace of yeast sediments; One-quarter finger head with soapy white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Very good sticky lacing with notable slight carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant malt, with orange, white grapes, marmalades, light candied fruits, caramel, floral, sugar, spices, bread, light lemon peels and grass.

Taste: Mid to light sweet malt, with amber bockishness, moderate grapefruits, light vine, floral, light sugar, strong spices, dry biscuits, lime and mid to strong bitter grassy hops.

Body: Medium body. Dry and quite slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Very good Pils maltyness in solid and slick background with strong Amber character. Strong grapefruits with vineyness, flowery with medium sweetness. Spicy, dry with good lime to round. Pretty good!

Hoppiness: Orange, white grapes, marmalades, light candied fruits, floral, spices, light citrus peels and grass in nose. Grapefruit, light vine, floral, strong spices, lime and grass in taste; Bitterness is quite strong and herbal for a lasting, close to high astringent bitter-sweet malty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Citrusy and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: Its American and NZ hops aroma is subtle, with NS hops being most prominent. Taste is strong grapefruit and citrus hoppiness to compliment rather good amber and Pils maltyness. An IPL with good foundation, but a stronger tropical hoppiness could be better. Worth a try.

Renaissance Boonies New Zealand Pilsner
It pours yellow, a bit on the hazy side, with a small white head. The aroma has rich doughy malt, must, light fruit and a bit of caramel. Doesn’t come across much as a pilsner on the nose. It has a medium body with semi-sharp carbonation. The taste is very full and malty with must and a bit of butterscotch. There is a bit of hops that are on the earthy/woody/fruity side. I don’t see a bottle date on the bottle, but it seems like this may have a bit of age on it. Just came into the area this week, but not sure how long it took to reach Missouri from New Zealand. Tastes okay, but would love to try a ’known fresh’ glass of it.
