Ninkasi Beer Run IPA
Hazy light orange color with a one inch creamy white head of foam. I dont know if it was intended or if there is a fault in this bottle but there was a heavy marijuana stank to this one. It hit hard on the first whiff. Otherwise, tart orange citrus with some pine and wood settled out in the background. Strong, almost harsh citrusy flavor with a very dry pine finish.

Ninkasi Beer Run IPA
Bomber from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Very clear and well filtered. Amber gold. An off white head is three fingers. An aroma of toast and fruit. A classic IPA aroma. Flavor is that plus tangerine and caramel malts. Citrus and tropical fruit with melon rind bitterness. Some sourness along with nicely balanced sweetness. This is classic and tasty. Not a complaint about this one.

Ninkasi Beer Run IPA
This 22 oz bottle was shared with Strykzone via our usual Facebook Chat joint tasting. Dave with his bottle and me with mine. I love doing this. This pours gold orange with a white head. Good lacing. Nice looking beer. Nose of stone and tropical fruit, and citrus as well. Medium body. Lots of tiny bubbles drifting up. The flavor is like the aroma with some melon as well, and the malts are toasty and the beer is in balance. The finish is bitter and just perfect. I am not sure you can brew an IPA much better than this one. I really like this.

Ninkasi N10 Anniversary Imperial Blended Ale
Bottle. From CostCo. W00t. A: Pitch black in body, mocha head. N: Cocoa, vanilla, oak, pine, earth, leather, smoke and coffee, ash, peppercorn, burnt toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit. Pine and grapefruit. T: Very bitter -- almost astringent. Underlying sweetness. M: Medium-heavy body, no alcohol, creamy carbonation. O: Interesting blend here. The IPA blend gives it a CDA quality, which, of course, will make it not everyone’s cup of tea. Still, worth a shot.

Ninkasi Hop Cooler Citrus IPA
Bottle. Pours a dingy light tan. A bit of sediment from teh bottom of the bottle caused some of this im sure. Scant thin white head. Spotty lacing. Modest grassy slightly citrus hop flavors. Light malt profile. Other than the noticeable citrus fruit character, a rather pale middle of the road IPA

Ninkasi Noir Milk Stout
On tap very dark down with a nice tight tan head. Not the classic whipped cream looking nitro lid but more coarse and with visible bubbles. Not sure if their serving equipment/gas is right. Very nice blend in the aroma of chocolate coffee and moderate roast. Quite a bit of lactose sweetness in the flavors. Light on the coffee and pretty tame bitterness. Delicious dark sweet beer that has a little heft as well at 7.6%

Black pour with a thin light beige head that leaves amazing lace. Lovely Hershey’s chocolate syrup nose with a bright touch of earthy roasted coffee and black malts. Creamy but dark and roasty flavor that’s got some roasted coffee and dark bittersweet cocoa, black malt, and a creamy yet boozy roasty finish. Really nice but a bit earthy overall.

Ninkasi Dawn of the Red India Red Ale
More amber-brown than red, there’s generous malty and fruity notes on the nose, with pineapple, lemon and maybe a hint of mint. Initial maltiness instantly disappears under dry and bitter hops, then returns in the midbody along with a herbal-bitter quality that persists long into the finish.

On tap at Alibi Room in Vancouver. A very dark beer with a bit of tan head and a very faint nose. In the mouth it’s sweet with simple coffee and chocolate notes - obvious additives rather than the result of roasting malts. Pleasant. 3.5

Ninkasi Oatis Oatmeal Stout - Vanilla
Chris brought this one too me from a trip to Utah. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large foamy brown head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty, woody and had notes of vanilla and floral hops. The flavor was bitter, dryish and toasty with cocoa, coffee, vanilla, wood and a hint t of red meat. Long finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Nice.

Ninkasi N10 Anniversary Imperial Blended Ale
Appearance: near-opaque deep brown with two fingers of creamy light beige head, excellent retention and moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, pine, citrus, wood, tobacco. (8/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, high bitter. (8/10) Medium-full slightly slick body, moderate carbonation, dry and warming (verging on hot) building bitter finish. (4/5) There’s a whole heckuva lot going on in this thing - there are vastly differing elements from wildly differing styles co-existing side by side here, and it’s tempting to call this a kitchen sink. Ultimately, though, it works reasonably well: the roasted malt stout aspects lead the way, augmented by the boozy imperial character, while there are hints of the IPA contributions in the finish. It’s kind of surprising that there isn’t more IPA character here, since they represent a quarter of the mix, but the fact that it’s 75% stout and barleywine makes me think that there might be some good aging prospects here. A bit pricey to take that flyer on, though, especially since I already have so much dark stuff laid down for aging. We’ll see how charitable I’m feeling the next time I see it on a shelf. (16/20)

This actually seemed less bitter than their Total Domination. Then again, maybe Total Domination finally killed off my taste buds. Overall, I just don’t like IPAs, but this is at least one of the better ones I have had. The high alcohol content definitely doesn’t hurt.

Ninkasi Easy Way IPA
12-ounce bottles in a pint glass. This is the first IPA that actually looks like a pale ale, as most others look more like an amber. Not liking overly hopped beers, this is not my favorite, but at least the hops are a little less dominating than in most IPAs. Unfortunately, so is the alcohol content.
