Ninkasi Pacific Rain
$2.49 bottle from Blue Ridge Bottle Shop. Pours pale golden with a dusting of a head. Aroma is light citrus, roasted malt, light earth. Flavor is kinda thin - but not offensively thin - it feels as if there’s flavor there, just not strong. Pine, earth, minor citrus. Tiny hint of sweetness in there. Drinkable, inoffensive, but not a standout.

Ninkasi Lux German-Style Helles Lager
This brew is a clear straw color with a medium white head that recedes steadily to a film. Short strings of lace. Aroma of mild hops, malt and fruit. Light-bodied with flavors of grassy hops, bready malt and a bit of fruit. The finish is mildly bitter with a grassy hop aftertaste. Decent overall.

Ninkasi Hop Cooler Citrus IPA
355ml bottle. Cloudy, orangey, dark golden to amber colour with average, thick, creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, off-white head. Condensed, citrusy hoppy aroma, notes of orange, tangerine, candied orange zest, a sugary touch, caramel malty background. Taste is dry, piney, citrusy, bitter hoppy, orange zest, increasing chalky bitterness pushes the fruitiness completely aside..

Grunt fill from Albertsons. Nice amber/orange/ golden body, small creamy head. Great looking pour. Aroma starts out hoppy like a good NW IPA, brings big, tart citrus to the taste, very juicy. Grapefruit and orange peel, lingering bitter bite. Hard to believe it’s 10%.

Bottle, Harris Teeter (Barracks Road). Pours slightly hazy reddish-brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, citrus, pine, nuts. Flavor is chocolate, pine, citrus peel, nuts, sweet caramel, dark fruits. A bit too sweet for me, perhaps, but still kinda tasty.

12 oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy straw gold with a big pillowy white head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is sweet bready malt and tropical fruit with some resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet bready malt with lots of fruit and a resiny hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice fruity resiny IPA.

On tap at Omars in Ashland. A bit hoppy then I expected but that’s cause I thought I was gonna be a pale ale and it turned out to be and IPA, my mistake.

Ninkasi Dawn of the Red India Red Ale
12 oz bottle from Wegmans This is an excellent red IPA. The IPA poured a hazy amber color with a frothy off-white head and lacing. Complex IPA with pears and tropical fruit on the nose. The IPA has a medium body with average carbonation. The taste had an earthy edge with more tropical fruit. The high IBU 75 was not expected from this very balanced IPA. There is some lingering bitterness after each swallow.

Appearance: Deep honey amber with a finger of small white bubbles. Nose: somewhat sweet malt with orange, mango, grapefruit and grass hops in the nose. Taste: starts out with candy sweetness that blends well with the orange and mango, but finishes with grapefruit zest bitterness. Nice progression through the taste. Body: medium and lively Parting thoughts: Quite a solid Imperial IPA. Checks my favorite boxes. The transition from sweet to bitter is nice as well. all around good to great beer.

Ninkasi Ground Control - Bourbon Barrel Aged
Pours a deep brownish black from the bottle with bubbly tan head that dissipates to leave moderate lace. Aroma is mild barrel character, hints of vanilla and oak, but mostly masked by big roasted malt accents. Taste is more balanced with the barrel, the roast gives way to chocolate and the barrel brings in vanilla more. Decent, but I feel like it could have used a meatier beer or more time in the barrels.

(22oz bottle) - smallish white head. Bright red body. Aroma of tangerine. Flavors of bitter citrus peel with a bit of hop character in the background. Actually some warming in the throat which surprised me. Not something I usually expect from a DPA. Thick mouth feel. Another solid beer from Ninkasi.

Bottle to becher pint glass, the appearance was a semi-hazy/cloudy sort of golden yellow color with a fingers worth of white foamy head that slid off at a mild pace. Some messy lace. The aroma had some danky sweet onion, earthiness, hay/grassy/straw hop quality and ended with a little bit of dried sweet to bitter pine. The flavor was moderately sweet with an ample bitterness making a good effort to balance. Aftertaste was nice and quaintly sweet to bitter; same finish. The palate was about medium bodied, perhaps just a touch under with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, pretty good APA worthy of having again.

22oz bottle picked up at a Safeway in Portland and consumed outside to kickoff Memorial Day Weekend. Malty presence already seen in the appearance as there is an amber hue. Slight white head. Nose is tropical fruit and candy sweetness like a hard orange candy. Taste is definitely on the sweet end of the spectrum but finishes bitter like a grapefruit rind. Malty notes initially with some mild tropical fruit. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky and resiny. For a hop lover, this is worth unearthing at your local bottle shop.

Ninkasi N10 Anniversary Imperial Blended Ale
A complex blend that all holds together. Smoky and slick elements of a barleywine, wine-like and delicate. Bitterness from a fresh IPA with the vanilla and chocolate of a stout. It all adds up in a beer which could easily have gotten way out of bounds.

Bottle at the 10th Boise Imperial Stout Tasting. Pours a deep dark brown color with a decent ring of tan head. Smells of heavy roast, cocoa, and barrel notes. Good flavors of roast, cocoa, and vanilla bourbon barrel notes. A nice sweetness here, but not overly sweet. Something tastes a little different with the yeast... like it was overexerted or made a long journey? Something out of this world perhaps? Thanks Steve for bringing this!

Last of my contributions to the 2017 RIS tasting. 2015 aged. Held up well. Pretty damn smooth. Dark brown, flat pour, small tan bubbles dispersed. More sweet than roasty, sugary, but the bourbon notes are there, not too prominent. Smooth drinker too, well balanced, not too boozy. Now I need to try the normal non-BBA version..

Draft. Dark gold in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of bready and slightly toasted pale malt, along with mild sour citrus. Flavors are of light German malts, mild pink grapefruit, and a bit of black pepper. Medium bodied. A bit to skewed towards the malts for my taste, but it still comes across as clean. Probably more balanced for a lot of folks.
