In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, light tropical fruits, very nice and smooth. On tap at Festibière d’hiver de Gatineau, 2017.

Benelux Le Beat
On tap at Cactus in Quebec City. Pours an almost completely opaque black but you see some red highlights if you look at it with a certain angle. On top sits a high beige head that leaves very intense lacing. Nose is of piny/green hops and roasted malt. Pretty much exactly what I’ve come to expect from a black IPA. Taste is quite bitter but not too much and hopefully never hashy. More pine than anything with some roasted malt in the back. Body is medium, carbonation moderately high. A little sticky. Overall a really solid black IPA!

On tap at Noctem. Pours a hazy golden with a thin/quickly gone white head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of fruity hops/melon with some slight pepper. Taste is of juicy fruits, light floury cereals and moderately bitter. Citrusy and that very light tartness just reinforces the juicy theme. Body is light to medium, carbonation moderately high. Lingering bitterness that is never harsh. Some very light booze. A fun belgian IPA, different!

On tap at Noctem. Almost clear bright golden with a medium white head, good retention, leaving little lacing. Aroma is lemon and lactic (but not too much) with fun oak features, mild spiciness/light peppery notes from the Belgian yeast I guess and light herbalness. Taste is gently tart with fun lactic features, some herbalness, peppery notes, juicy citrus and light bitterness. Medium body. Moderate-medium carbonation. Moderately juicy mouthfeel. Lemony and lactic finish. This is not your usual Belgian IPA, the mixed fermention bright a totally different profile. Well balanced all along, drinkable aplenty (especially for the abv) and not something that you see too often on the market.

on tap at benelux, mtl - rue sherbrooke. hazy copper orange pour with a small reviving light beige cap offering some retention and lacing. toasted grains, english tea, misplaced melon fruitiness - perhaps from a lack of nobleness; pungent earthiness, salt, soap traces. moderate carbonation, light body - oily; assertive grassy-herbal-spicy finish. more bitter than a bitter, which is odd - also not without an american touch. then again, it?s a nice pub no-brainer-quencher.

Bottle thx Guillaume for helping buying this. A: citrusy, wood from the aging, some fruitiness and delicate funk. App: clear golden smallish but lasting white head. Good lacing. T/p: med body with moderate long acidic finish. Moderate carbonation. O: Such a beautiful blend. I don’t know if the fruit come up stronger fresh, my bad for taking that long before drinking it. I always enjoy barrel aged beer from Benelux and I’ll keep buying them in the future.
