Ale Asylum Napalm Bunny
Pours a rich copper color with a fairly thin tan head. Aroma is fruit and funk finished of with some orange and grapefruit scents. Taste is full of fruit flavors and sweet bread with just a hint of strong ale about it before the bitterness kicks in at the finish. Thereís a touch of booziness to it but itís a very drinkable 9%íer.

Bottle - Amber pour with a foamy off-white head. Pretty fruity nose, with some orange marmalade stuff going on. Lots of malt. Malty in the mouth too, with some nutty notes that donít do it for me. Watery and carbonated in the mouth. Not my thing.

Bottle from Sonoma Cellars in Oconomowoc. Memorial Day grilling with the in-laws. Pine, citrus & malty. The sweet malts is a solid counterpoint to the strong pine/citrus. Sticky bittersweet. Medium bodied, light alcohol presence. Solid, older style ipa. 13.8

Pours a nice golden color with a fuzzy white head. Aroma is mostly fruit and grass with just a bit of a sour funk note. Taste is mostly sweet fruits with mango, citrus, and maybe even a little peach before a mild bitterness comes in at the finish. Pretty tasty. Maybe not quite as bright as some other APAs but still very drinkable.

Deep copper color. Some good pine-mango citrus with caramel notes. Malt is too thick and chewy, covering up the citra flavors. Still a drinkable brew.

From draft at the brewery itís lightly hazed sparkling gold with a fine and firm head. Raw and strongly citric American hops come across as lemon juice and grass, while banana and apple esters play with cracked pepper phenolics. Dry body is exasperated by overbearing hop bitterness, and malt seems backgrounded, coming across as faint grist and sourdough. Off-dry and medium bodied with creamy-fine carbonation is the highlight, but itís somewhat ruined by the strong banana esters which dominate mid-palate through the finish. A bit simple in character and the balance seems off, especially the bitterness, but thereís no flaws and the high temperature fermentation is evident.

From draft at the brewery itís pale gold with faint haze and short head. Malt comes across as sourdough and husks (sawdust) with strong DMS (cauliflower, plastic, sweat / dirty dish rag). Hops are quiet white pepper and lemon and grass. Itís overly sweet and seems a bit under attenuated for pilsner, coming across as saccharine in the finish. Light bodied and the mouthfeel is enjoyably fine and silky and the hop acids suit it well, but malt is in poor shape and the carbonation and bitterness donít stand up to the sugar. Messy lager that gets worse as it breathes.

12oz bottle. Filtered looking dulled orange-tan body. Foamy, steady off-white head. Really does have some unique fruity tones going on. Canned peach, apricot, maybe even a hint of pear...I guess just all things fruit cup. Still has a more classic West Coast malt backdrop, so it comes off pretty balanced. Awful amateur artwork on the bottle, clearly scraping the bottom of the local talent pool..Looks like the doodlings inside of a 14 year old metal kids school notebook...not in a good way. Pretty mellow stuff. Not really diving fully in but trying to appease the new school. OK.

12floz bottle ($1.50 equivalent, BOD: PKGD 10416A I guess means 10.04.2016) decanted into a pint glass. Appears a cloudy orange-copper with one-finger of head. Aroma is like how pine trees would smell if covered in caramel. Full mouthfeel with oily pine and semi-sweet molasses flavors. It has held up well the months this beer was on a store shelf, quality American IPA with a solid malt backbone.

12oz bottle. Imperial Red IPA all the way...certainly a major facet worth disclosing. Filtration works really well here, keeping it nice and clean. Citra hops are there, but it is also malty enough to be someoneís Barleywine. In no way encapsulating a modern approach to IIPA, more of a classic NW resinous malt heavy feel. Pretty tasty stuff. works out well. Imperial hoppy amber at the end of the day.

Ale Asylum Demento Session Pale Ale
Pours a clean golden yellow on tap with a fluffy white head that dissipates to leave moderate lace. Aroma of mild citrus and grassy hop notes over a light bready malt base. Taste is mostly the malt with just a faint hint of the hops, but not bitterness really, but something with the water chemistry here, because all the beers have had this odd astringency. If it was in cans and I lived in Madison, I would crush it though.

Pours a slightly hazy golden orange on tap with fluffy off-white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of mild bready malts over a nice spicy and new world hop note, not as dank as I was hoping with that selection. Taste follows with a present and persistent bitterness, a bit of astringency on the back end. Not horrible, but really wanted a lot more from it.

On tap at Ellynís Tap & Grill in Glen Ellyn, IL., and dispensed to a house logoed tulip showing a fairly clear, brownish amber color, with a fingerís width of soft white froth that diminished to a persistent, bubbly ring, light film, and doily-like cling to the lacing. The nose was expressive pine, citrus, and pit fruit, with a touch of malt sweetness. Medium bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste was similar, presented a bit of tartness & tanginess, and a lingering, resinous, citrus & rind-like bitterness. A nice step up from the Velveteen.

Ale Asylum Ballistic IPA
12 ounce bottle from Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI, served not much above fridge temp from a pint glass. Lightly hazy dark, bright amber body with a small-to-moderate lasting white head and a bit of lacing...Iím not necessarily a huge fan of the hop, but in this case the woody-humus character is equaled in the nose by a bright, overripe citrus note (grapefruit, maybe a bit of lime) and just a touch of smokiness that works quite well...itís a bit musty and yeasty in the body, just a bit more than I want in a standard IPA, but the fruity-bitter balance is solid and thereís a pretty nice dry, lightly peppery bitter finish...all in all drinkable enough if no competition for the best available to me. Had a few poor samples from this brewery last summer and fall but Iím pleased to say that my recent tastings have been much better.

On tap at the downtown Great Dane on Doty during the 2017 Madison Craft Beer Week, dispensed to a snifter showing a black/brown hue, with brownish tan froth, and foamy dots & dashes of lacing. The nose was malty, with slight woodiness, roasted, cocoa, and just a touch of dark fruit. Nearly full in body, with surprisingly lively carbonation, and some creaminess to the mouthfeel, the taste added a pronounced roasted & earthy bitterness, with a pleasantly dry finish. A heavy hitter! I liked it!

12floz bottle (BOD 07.19.2016) bought as part of a mix-six, per unit price $1.50. Poured into a standard nonic glass, opaque amber color with a one finger sustaining cream colored head. Nose is rather ordinary, consisting ofl hop pellet dust and hard candy. A hollow full-bodied beer that presents some balance between hop bitterness and malt sweetness. More of the melon variety IPA, and Iíll leave it at that as to get any further detailed would mean to get more general descriptive. Iíll keep this in mind to have when fresher.

12 ounce bottle from Steveís (University Avenue) in Madison, WI, served a little colder than it should be in a Zywiec glass. Deep, translucent (almost opaque) chestnut color with a frothy, pale beige head that decays slowly and laces heavily...sugary-sweet nose - brown sugar and honey, faint touch of nuts (pecans) and a subdued floral motif...body is sweet also though not disgustingly so, and that nutty oiliness shows up in just the right strength, with just a slight dryness and alcohol presence towards the finish...very full, almost syrupy, decadent mouthfeel, light carbonation. Canít remember the last time I had a brown ale this good - maybe they all should be 8%? Anyway, well done.

12floz bottle, no freshness date, (goes for about $1.50 per unit). Bubblegum wafts through as I behold this copper colored Belgian influenced IPA. Feels like a medium-bodied ale that has complex flavor profile consisting of resiny oil, passion fruit, and touches of all spice. A very good beer. Especially if you so happen to be torn between wanting an IPA or a pale Belgian ale.

Golden color, with a moderate, lasting canvas colored head. Very earthy hops scents. A torched/toasted grapefruit comes to mind. An intriguing scent. After the first quaff, again torched citrus comes to mind. Not quite there with the white grapes, but certainly some citrus being shot from the cannon. Fairly biting hops acidity. Some kiwi and alcohol sudden come forth as in a overripe fruit blast. Definitely some alcohol driving the flavors. Iíve got to go back to intriguing. Oddly fruity, hoppy and alcoholic. The malt liquor of IPAs? I could easily see this one being polarizing.
