DuClaw Sweet Baby Jesus!
Bottle pour into tulip glass from Manchester Wine and Liquors. Appearance is dark brown/ruby red, decent sparkle, finger-width light brown foamy head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is strong roasted malts, chocolate, lighter peanut butter. Taste is bittersweet roasted malts bordering on ash, chocolate and peanut butter. Palate is medium bodied with slick, smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste with late dominant bitter ending. Overall, some complexity with a number of aromas/flavors and combination of sweet and bitter.

2017-06-30. Very dark brown body, good size frothy tan head. Aroma has lightly earthy vanilla and cocoa character. Coconut escapes my definition at first but is obvious after reading the label. Flavour is interesting, sort of vanilla and cocoa, lightly toasty sweetish dark malt malt. Notes of coconut. 7+ Smooth average bodied palate, good carbonation. Tasty. 7/4/7/3/16 Bottle from Trackside Liquor, Medicine Hat, AB.

Sampled on draft at Social this beer poured a medium brown color with a honey hue and a large creamy.h orange-tan head that left excellent lacing. The aroma was sweetish caramel, pine, hot pepper and fruity hops. The flavor was vague spices, a bit of hot pepper, pine and fruity hops. Medium length finish. Medium body. Ok.

Pours a black color with a tan head. Assertions is peanut butter with chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. Flavor is similar to sweet baby Jesus with a nice coffee kick on the finish. Plenty of peanut butter as well to balances it out.

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Pours copper with a transient beige head. Aroma is bourbon and brown sugar. Med + body. Flavor is treacle, bourbon, a little smoke, a little wood, a little pale stone fruit and a little heat. The heat is noticeable but rather pleasing. Very good stuff.

DuClaw Sweet Baby Java
Dark cola-colored beer with a thin light beige head that lasts a while. Nose of peanut butter, cocoa, and sweetened coffee. Flavor is like a Reese’s cup dunked in a cafe au lait with peanut butter, chocolate, and coffee finished with a mild ashy bitterness. Sort of a novelty, but still pretty tasty.

Tallahassee, Fl - Quick N Save - 12 oz bottle. Light golden, very slight haze, no real head, Aroma of sour raspberries, some vinegar, some burnt notes. Solid sour profile in the flavor, nice pucker notes, raspberries, vinegar, and just sourness, getting tired of trying to describe sour beers, because I just can’t. Nice thickish mouthfeel,

Tallahassee, Fl. - Momo’s Pizza - Northside - on tap. Sparkling, light golden pour, thin snow white head, Aroma is grassy and yeasty, hint of sour. Flavor has some faint citrus notes, a bit of allspice, no flaws, just not exciting or any real high notes. Thick enough rnouthfeel.

12 oz bottle. Scents of hops not too citrusy. Pours a pretty honey colored orange with a very big rocky white head. Lots of lacing. Round balanced carmel flavors with leather and sweet tanins - keep looking for citrus that doesn’t seem to be there. Still quite nice.

Pours clear amber with a small white head. Aroma is a mildly hoppy IPA aroma with a spicy, almost cinnamon, component. Taste is a ride - with sweet spicy flavors followed by a medium bitterness and some grains for the finish. It’s complex, but it’s hard to pinpoint specific flavors.

Bottles bought by Alice. Heavy on the PB re: both nose and palate; chocolate not as prominent. Very light bodied and agree with one of the other raters that this flavor profile would have been better suited to a heavier imperial stout or something more high-gravity. Still enjoyable for what it is. If I were more of a PB guy I’d make this a regular thing.

Dark reddish brown beer with a thin quickly dissipating light tan head. Sweet nose of toasted coconut, caramel, and vanilla. Flavor is (thankfully) semi-sweet with coconut, cocoa, and toffee finished with a smoky bitterness that lingers and counterbalances the sweeter flavors. Good beer and the coconut flavor, although pronounced, works here.

DuClaw Q Dry Rubbed
Surprised this is not listed, I thought I did a complete search with Q, then Dry, then Rub but nothing came up, and it sat in my cellar for over a month, oh well, here goes nuttin. Looks a little amber pale with a nice creamy head, no nose of BBQ what so ever. Taste is like any other pale ale. It does have an odd thing going on there but to say it tastes like rub is not correct. Yes, something there but it does not do the pale ale justice. I don’t think that putting BBQ seasoning in a beer is a good idea, JMHO. Not impressed. If somebody didn’t tell me there was BBQ in this, I’d never know and I am a big fan of dry rub BBQ.

Cloudy, dark amber pour with scant, creamy foam. Medium body, light fizz and slightly slick. Earthy and spicy aromas including pepper and perhaps cinnamon. The flavors are pleasantly complex including the chamomile and cardamom advertised. The malt sweetness manages to compliment the flavors and the beer has a spicy almost dry finish rather than a sweet, sour end. A very enjoyable variation on an amber ale. Perhaps best suited to early autumn.

DuClaw Sweet Baby Java
BOD 3/20/17. Pours black, like it should. Normal head volume, lacing and retention. Quite outstanding nose of peanuts, chocolate and a touch of coffee. Peanut butter is the primary aroma while roast is absent. There is a hint of sweetness and the overall impression is that of a Reese’s Cup. The body is borderline heavy light. The texture is smooth. Outstanding carbonation / body balance. The middle is mildly effervescent while the finish is active and prickly. The flavor profile is very good. Had there been a bit more depth and richness, it would be outstanding. Like the nose, peanuts are the primary flavor component initially. Absent is the peanut butter quality due to lack of sweetness - this is more parched peanut in flavor. The middle has only a hint of chocolate and sweetness. Hop bitterness is undetected. The mild bitterness comes from coffee and a light touch of roast. Coffee and roast dominate the flavor profile from the middle on. The finish is smooth and a touch of coffee lingers.

Not bad for a candle, though it could illuminate the room I found the taste bland and waxy. Maybe they should try a high class scented candle for their next brew, perhaps a Yankee.

Nothing impressive in appearance; pours like a standard porter. Aroma/taste is very pleasant; like a Reese’s cup and Snickers melted in a glass. Very light and fizzy on the palate. This would be delicious if it was a 10-15% abv.

DOB:

2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable Beer (base style: 18A Blonde Ale)

AROMA: Moderate grapefruit and general citrus aroma due to dry hopping and fruit zest added. Generic base malt scent, not particularly sweet. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Dark gold/amber hue; mostly clear. Moderate off-white foam. 3/3

FLAVOR: First half is light malt character with a background citrusy note. Not especially fruity-tasting until the finish when a prominent, but brief grapefruit taste emerges. Lightly bitter; dry sensation; transitions into grapefruit note quite well. Palette is rather mild overall, but enjoyable. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body; medium carbonation. Crisp, slightly refreshing, mostly clean aftertaste. Seems a little light for 5% ABV. Probably sessionable to some. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: More interesting than the average blonde; but not necessarily better. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 38/50

355ml bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown almost black with a small, short lived, light brown head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, toffee and dates. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, licorice and a hint of vanilla with a dry, bitter, spicy rye finish. Medium to full body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Tasty.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is a some sweet honey with some nutmeg which I guess is the cardamom. Flavor is more of that nutmeg with honey and maybe some ginger. I do not get much of the Belgian aspects of this beer but this had a nice perfume spice to it. A bit thin but I kind like this because of the odd mysterious spices.

Bottle, pours out a pretty much clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma is of sweet grainy bread, light citrus and floral notes, light sticky sweetness. Taste is much the same, not a whole lot that makes this one stand out, label claims juicy, but I get literally 0 of that.

Good golden yellow color, fair head. Very nice aroma.. sweet hops, smells like an Imperial IPA moreso than a 6.3% one. Tastes bigger than its ABV too, malty, sticky hops. It is a good one.
