Hopworks Strong Bad the Belgianator
So nice to drink a qualifying Belgium beer made in America. I had three years living in Belgium drinking everything I could. Now that Iím away I constantly cringe at others attempt at a Belgium style beer. Not this one. It has the right smell and a nice sweet start. Not to sweet though. A great balance through out. Nice rich amber color with the proper taste. I think Iíll have another.

Hopworks Kentucky Christmas
Bottle purchased from the brewery. A: Cloudy brown with an off-white head. Lacing. N: Bourbon, vanilla, caramel, peppercorn, earth, toffee, toasted biscuit, molasses, treacle. Hops are still substantial with pine and a touch of grapefruit. T: Sweet and bitter with a hint of whiskey sour. M: Medium body, some alcohol bite, crisp carbonation. O: I like it well enough but itís missing something for me. The Abominable is a formidable base and itís able to fight off the big barrel. I do think a sweeter whiskey would have been better here though.

Can. Pours clear golden yellow. Aroma is pleasantly hoppy, with grass and flowers some citric notes too. Body is medium with a lively carbonation, bitter on the back with some residual sweetness flushing in, but the bitterness wins. Palate is dry and bitter, but nice too. Good.

Hopworks Abominable Winter Ale
Bottle: Poured a dark amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy and resinous hops notes is very enticing. Taste is a complex mix of citrusy and resinous hops notes with some light sweetness from the malt base. Very limited amount of bitterness with good floral notes. Body is fuller then average with good carbonation. Very nice mix between a solid malt backbone and some fresh hops notes.

Bottle. A: Very cloudy copper. Thin foamy white head. N: Very doughy. Minerals and some sulfur. Grapefruit and a touch of pine. Earthiness and a touch of wood. Donít get much fruit out of this. T: Very bitter - almost astringent. Crackery malt. M: Medium body, quite resinous, spritzy carbonation, light alcohol. O: OK. Not sure about this one; seems kind of dead leaf rather than lively hop. Ah well.

Patagonia Long Root Ale
From can stamped 19 Oct 2016, itís lightly hazed sparkling honey with a lasting white head. Aroma is floral, fruity, grassy, coming across somewhat like French Strisselspalt with a musty honeysuckle quality, but some odd green vegetable / lettuce notes also seem to develop, and a muted sense of plastic / alcohol. For malt itís grainy graham cracker / pie crust with something oddly like cheese or cream (yeast?). In the mouth itís medium bodied and lightly sweet with plump carbonation and a clean, bouncy finish. So the texture is enjoyable and flavor balance in the right spot, and all ingredients seem to only compliment the rest.

From bottle itís lightly hazed amber. Strange aroma of fabric and phosphorus (match sticks), faint pine and grapefruit, leaf vegetables. So very hard to discern anything in there really.
