Rivertowne TPS (Re)Porter
Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a very dark brown color - almost black - with a medium sized fluffy brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was toasty, roasty, malty and woody. The flavor was roasty and toasty with a touch of smoke, vague berries and a hint of hot pepper. Long roasty malt and berry finish. Medium body. Ok.

Rivertowne African Swallow
Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a mostly dark brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. Sly messy lace. The aroma had some sweet caramel/toffee malts up front with a balancing sweet and woody coconut smell coming in with a little bit of toast and dark fruits. The flavor was moderately sweet with an ample dryness and nuts coming in to blend fairly nice. Aftertaste leaned towards the caramel/toffee malts but super light. Not much of a finish, seemed somewhat nutty. The palate was about medium bodied, perhaps a touch under with a fairly good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, I dig the idea of putting coconut in a brown ale and wouldn’t mind having this again if I could get it.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a murky brown color with a tight foamy white head. Not much lace. The aroma had a some nuts, light roast, dried leaves, some butterscotch, wood and a little bit of earthiness. The flavor was moderately sweet with some dough entering in to amplify the sweetness. Light nutty aftertaste and finish. The palate was about medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, pretty good brown ale that I could come back to.

Rivertowne Schloppy Monster Double IPA
12 oz can. Pours a mostly clear golden orange color and topped by a nice layer of off white foam that settles into a thin layer at the body. The aroma shows notes of citrus fruit with orange and grapefruit prominent and pine resin over a toasted bread and caramel malt base. The flavor shows much the same with the orange and grapefruit citrus, pine, sweet caramel and toasted bread malts, some booze and citrus hop bitterness on the back end. Medium bodied with balanced carbonation that leads to a bitter sweet finish. Decent enough DIPA, but nothing that wows you here.

Rivertowne Amish Mafia Fruit Sour
Not a terrible beer but does have some flaws. Aroma was so so. Had a very metallic smell with hints of dirty dishwater. Pour was a nice hazy light gold with a thin white film for a head. Taste wasn’t bad, especially given that low ABV. Refreshingly tart with sour white grape skin and hint of lemon. Very light mouthfeel and a nice tart slightly wet finish. Good carbonation. Thankfully that dirty dishwater smell did not show up in the taste and I would gladly buy this beer again in the summer.

Rivertowne Maxwell’s Scottish Ale
Can. Deep garnet with an off-white head. Light, nutty malt aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet with a tangy bite on the back end. Not quite a Scottish ale, more in the Brown Ale type in drinking. This needs a bit more malt complexity and body.

A little malty and woody, there’s a decent amount of bread and grain that leads into the pine and hops that take over for the finish. Full and slightly bitter.

Rivertowne Grateful White
Rivertowne Grateful White has a thick, cream, off-white head, a murky, orange-gold appearance, which becomes murkier, after the "swish & pour", and lots of lacing, left behind, on the glass. The aroma is of sweet white wheat bread, some spice, and a touch of banana, and a touch of bubble gum. Taste is of yeasty, zingy, sweet, fruity white wheat bread, some mild, light crust, and white pepper. Mouthfeel is low-heavy, and Grateful White finishes medium white. RJT

Rivertowne Maxwell’s Scottish Ale
same as https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/rivertowne-maxwells-scottish-ale/180693/ Sampled at the Rivertowne on tap in Monroeville 12/2007. A little perfumy, but not much. Slightly cloudy brown. Thin creamy head. Nearly flat on the palate. Earthly and nearly bitter. Perhaps some hints of wet straw in there too. The bitterness build with each sip but never gets too out of control. Overall, an OK and unique beer, glad have had the chance to try it. I think East End old hickory may be a little better than this, but not much.

16 oz can. Really cool label! Thanks RT! Pop yields a mild sweet candy nose. Pleasantly darker orange yuengy lookin thang. Taste is much more personality than expected, mind you, this is not a gentle lager. 473 ml of tap you in the face beer. Good co2 keeps it lively. Been wanting to taste this for a while. Bigger and better than a pale lager but not quite as civilized. Could drink another, no prob. I’m almost thinking its a vienna. Yes, I do wish I had another can, blast.

On tap at haunted Harmony Inn. Big & black fer sure. Creamy off white head. Wow, smells like a malted chocolate milk shake. No lie. Taste is also mild malty shake, but with a little less sugar. Interesting flat chocolate unsweetened milk chocolate malt. Same flat initial impressions, but still chocolate.

Rivertowne All Aboard Oatmeal Coffee Stout - Bourbon
12 ounce can
Rivertowne has never really set the world on fire but they continue to plug away with decent release after decent release. Selling a barrel aged imperial stout in a can piqued my curiosity so I picked up a single during a stop at the store. The forgettable experience falls short of average; don’t bother with this one unless you come across a great deal.

Aroma / Appearance - A fluid black base appears timid compared to the average imperial stout. The gentle head melts away like ice cream on a warm summer day. Oak, malt, and raspberries offer the core essence of an imperial stout. Sadly the bourbon barrel aging steals the show; the unbalanced oakiness eventually masks everything but plums and chocolate.

Flavor / Palate - Malt, oak, chocolate, and plums fill the mouth with flavor. Despite the richness it feels lacking compared to a well executed example of the style. The results leave the palate wanting just a bit more. With more body and less barrel influence this could be a solid middle of the road release.

Rivertowne Mosaic IPA
I’m not a fan of IPA so flip my numbers if you do,this is terribly on style. Clear pale. Mild friendly IPA aroma, lacks any of that BO so prevalent in the latter day style. Taste is bitter but does not really rise to the effects of difficult IPA, more like a strong personality APA.
