FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Brewmaster's Grand Cru Blend (2016)

FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Colonel E.H. Taylor
Klasse!

FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Apple Brandy Barrel

FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Vanilla

Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Aroma is chocolate forward with some light roast notes. Hints of raisin and sherry. Light whiskey notes adding a bit of spiciness and light oak. A bit of honey and caramel as it warms. Pours black with a medium sized, thick, creamy, mocha head that shows solid retention as it recedes to a thin film that lingers. Light lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with chocolate, honey and caramel followed by some roast and lingering toasted bread in the finish. Hints of raisin and dark fruit. Light oak with medium light whiskey notes. Whiskey contributes some alcohol spice and a bit of the caramel and toasted bread notes. Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice beer. Lots of nice chocolate malts with some light roast and they rye whiskey notes really compliment the base stout.

22 oz. bottle. Pitch black color, fast dying head. Nose is big roast, chocolate, cocoa, oak.Taste is dominated by roast, chocolate, cocoa, molasses. Oak is here, alcohol here. I get no Apple Brandy whatsoever. After spending damn near $30.00 on this bottle I expect the barrel, not here.

This was a pretty big disappointment. Way too sweet, I wasn't really able to identify the cognac influence (unless the grating sweetness was it). Struggled to drink the whole thing and won't be be purchasing others at the ridiculous price tag.

FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Mellow Corn Barrel
Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Aroma is fairly chocolate forward with some light roast notes. Moderate whiskey notes and light oak. Hints of dark fruit, anise and leather. Light alcohol spice. Pours black with a small, moderately thick, mocha head that recedes quickly to the edges where a small film lingers for a bit. No lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with a moderately strong chocolate note as well as some light roast and graham cracker and caramel notes; actually this tastes a lot like a tootsie roll. Light leather notes as well. Hints of dark fruit. Light whiskey and faint oak notes. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and slightly silky with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, another Eclipse that has aged nicely. I remember this variant being super hot and boozy when it was first released but this has aged wonderfully and the alcohol has really integrated nicely with the malt.

FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Raspberry
Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Aroma is chocolate forward with light roast, leather and tobacco notes. Light oak and bourbon with a bit of alcohol spice. Medium to medium light raspberry notes with other dark fruit present as well. Pours black with a medium large, thick, creamy, mocha head that exhibits good retention as it recedes to a thin layer that lingers. Light lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with moderately strong chocolate malt notes. Some medium light bourbon, light oak and light alcohol spice. Moderate bitterness. Light roast, toffee and leather notes. Moderate raspberry notes with hints of cherry, plum and raisin. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and a bit silky with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice stout. FiftyFifty does a good job moderating the amount of fruit they dump into these beers allowing the base stout to really shine. The raspberry is fading though, so its best to drink this sooner rather than later.

Bottle @ company tasting. 2013 edition. Pitch black body with a small, dense brown head. Strong, intense, very nice aroma of dark malt, coffee, dark chocolate, dry fruit and alcohol. Flavor is sweet dark malt, dry fruit, coffee, chocolate, balanced bitterness and a bit boozy Bourbon in a nice way. Full bodied and very long lasting, strong aftertaste. Very nice, not exactly what I will call balanced, but still very nice in a big, bold way.

FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Cherry
Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Aroma is chocolate and cherry forward. Light roast notes with hints of bourbon and oak. As it warms it is more chocolate and roast with less cherry notes. Hints of raisin and dark fruit. Pours black with a medium large, thick, pillowy, mocha head that exhibits nice retention as it recedes to a small head that lingers. No lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with moderately strong chocolate notes, both milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Light roast with hints of leather. Medium light cherry notes with hints of raisin and plum. Medium light bourbon notes with light oak and alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low but present alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer. The cherry notes are present but well restrained. At first the beer comes off a bit more alcohol forward than other eclipses, but as it warms this seems to change. Solid malt profile with some good bourbon notes.

FiftyFifty Session 267
Can (Aug 23, 2017 canning). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (cereal, grain, wort), lightly hoppy (grapefruit), with a light note of butter. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Pretty disappointing, although it's admittedly my first beer from this brewery. I see their ridiculously overpriced impy stouts in Colorado all the time but always scroll past. And judging from this, esp. the crude malt character (much like a non-alcoholic/unfermented beer), I'm even less inclined to ever bother with the pricey stuff.

FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Cognac
Poured from a 22 oz bottle, 2016 vintage. Aroma is malt forward with chocolate, light roast and tobacco notes. Medium light cognac notes with some raisin, plum and fig. Hints of oak and alcohol spice. Pours dark brown to black with a medium large, moderately thick, light mocha head that recedes somewhat quickly to a thin film that lingers. Light lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with some chocolate notes with light roast and leather. Light oak and alcohol spice. Medium cognac notes with some dark fruit notes. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer. Cognac notes and nice and fruity adding good complexity and balancing out all the malt notes. 3.8 2015 Vintage - Aroma is more malt forward as the cognac and dark fruit notes have faded a bit. A bit more roast and leather notes. Flavor is nice with a solid sweetness and a balance between the chocolate and cognac notes. Again, the cognac and dark fruit notes are a bit lighter than in the 2016 vintage which I think helps. The flavor does not have any leather notes creeping in but does have a bit more roast than the 2016.

August 2017 - Bottle share at Chriso's Pre-GBBF Shindig. Thanks! As 'FiftyFifty Eclipse Honey and Oak 10th Release', to me the wax looks black but not according to the brewery. Pours opaque black with a small foamy brown head. Aroma is chocolate, molasses, slight honey and toffee. Body is a little frothy. Taste is molasses, chocolate syrup, spicy, boozy and oaky with a slight paraffin dimension – robust oakiness. Nice. (8-4-7-3-16=3.8)

FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Woodford Reserve Barrel
Poured from a 2016 vintage bottle. Aroma is balanced between bourbon and malt notes. Some dark chocolate with lighter roast and hints of honey, prune and raisin. Light oak and medium light bourbon notes. Pours black with a medium large, thick, creamy, dark mocha head that exhibits nice retention as it recedes to a small, thick film that lingers. No lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with lots of chocolate and lighter honey and toffee notes. Light roast and faint raisin and prune notes. Medium bitterness with some light alcohol spice. Moderate bourbon notes with some light to medium light oak. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and slightly silky with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low, but resent alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright Eclipse, but its a bit boozy and this one would probably benefit from another year of rest. - 3.8 - 2015 vintage - Aroma has more chocolate and toffee with hints of vanilla than the 2016. Bourbon notes are lighter and the alcohol spice has faded a bit. Flavor is fairly sweet with rounded chocolate notes and light roast. Some light toffee and caramel. Balanced bourbon notes with almost no alcohol heat. Overall, this vintage is really nice and my score for this beer is base don this vintage. 2014 vintage - Aroma is similar to the 2015 with a lot of chocolate and softer bourbon notes but there is also a bit of leather and tobacco setting in. Flavor has a moderate sweetness, but there are some light oxidation note with honey, leather and tobacco. The chocolate notes are more bittersweet/baking chocolate. It seems like the 2015 is the best vintage for this variant. I would give this vintage a 3.8 as well.
