Hornbeer Caribbean Rumstout
Another night, another Hornbeer. Sure, I could sit on this for years but Iím absolutely done with that mentality. Letís go! Cocoa, dry wood, rum, ever so slight spice, coffee, vanilla. Everything is subdued but it doesnít take effort to notice it all. The taste is pretty good. On occasion the intro is stellar, other times it comes across as an unknown. Sweet spice appears on the finish along with the puckering bitterness followed by drool. Oak, cocoa, smoke, and more smoke after a sit. I was having issues with the flavour as it was just all blended up into some unknown pile. Then I realized that this brew NEEDS to be sipped, slowly, to allow my mouth to recover from each sip. Only then was I allowed to get personal with this brew. Wood and more smoke, burnt sugar not wood. Bets better with patience. Donít drink the sediment - itís really shitty. Iíll take Hornbeer The Fundamental 1000 times out of 1000 before this one given the choice. Side note - I cannot wait for that DRI show in a couple of months.

Hornbeer The Fundamental Blackhorn
This stuff is fantastic! Soft nose with a bunch of things - walnuts (says so on the bottle and the bottle doesnít lie), dark dark dark milk chocolate, red twizzlers, the slight smoke has depth of earthy qualities, plenty of roasted malts, vanilla, molasses, touch of toffee, salt. Nothing dominates - softly complex. Dammit if this stuff didnít hit me hard tonight. Excellent flavours that are mostly mellow, well balanced and totally succulent. The bitterness is there but never even remotely dominant. Ok, ... well when it warms that bitterness comes out pretty big but thereís so much more that it only adds to the experience. Huge deep roast, licorice, bakers chocolate, cracker, vanilla, smoke is there, quite dry at this point but it wasnít always so. Vanilla, red candy sweetness, burnt logs (wood logs, not logs logs) in my mouth rules, molasses, a hint of alcohol here and there. Mouth is happy with the changes that go between bitterness, puckering dryness, permanent aftertaste, smoke breath. Wonderful. My second Hornbeer - very pricy at 13$ but mostly justified.

0.5 l bottle. Pours dark brown, with beige head which quickly disappears. Aromas of hops, tropical fruits, resins, caramel, some herbal notes as well. Bitter with well marked sweetness, herbal aftertaste. Medium bodied. Quite unusual black IPA, but at the same time a very interesting and complex one.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with beige head. Aroma has malt with bread, caramel and is slightly fruity and sweet. Also some esters and hints of spices. Taste is sweet, malty with caramel, dark bread and notes of spice yet estery and fruity. Texture is medium carbonation with a dry yeasty finish. Not quite a bock hence the noticable esters and hazyness. Maybe not the best batch of this beer.

Copenhagen 12/1 2017. 50 cl bottle. Gift from my Mother-in-law. Very angry Troll harassing the internet while caressing his cat on the label. Pours slightly hazy dark amber with yellowish head. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of foam. Moderate lacing. Aroma is sweetish. Fermented fruit, caramel and brown sugar. Light tart notes. Medium to light carbonation and medium thick palate. Flavor is sweet followed by slightly spicy medium bitterness. Potent feel of alcohol. Aftertaste is sweet and bitter at the same time. Lingering. A quite potent strong beer which is sweet without becoming cloying. And I am ready to harass somebody with a slur in my voice after emptying the bottle.

This shit is so damn good and unique I almost forgot to make a note on it before ití was all gone. This isnít your standard BIPA. This one seems more stout based in the aroma which threw me off initially. Oatmeal sticks out, a dark berry base lurks, passion fruit, roast, almond, pine in secondary - yea - that is an awesome mix. Taste follows up but the oatmeal fades out a bit, pine, citrus, candy, excellent bitterness, honey, caramel, wants to have heat but doesnít, dirt, orange peel in large chunks and lightly chewed (edit - this made me larf on the reread). Wonderful mouth feel - soft and smooth like a drier stout, lengthy managable bitterness, good stuff. This is the first 12$ beer Iíve bought in a very very long time and it was totally worth it. I wanted every sip to last forever yet I just had to get more a second later. Exceptional brew indeed.

500ml bottle. In the cellar for a year and a half. Wow. Pours black, light does not penetrate, stars are lost. Black. A thin cocoa powder coloured head on top of that. On the nose, molasses, leather, light ash, raisin and notes that make me think stout meets a lightly peated Scotch. HUGE on the tongue with molasses, tonnes of roasty malt notes, sponge toffee, faint red licorice, espresso, and a faint trace of alcohol that heads into caramel, butterscotch, heavy tannins, and a faint mint note in a lingering note of molasses in the huge finish. This is awesome. Why did I only buy ONE?!

Hornbeer continues itís crusade against the lack of morality and decency in the Financial Sector. Pours hazy dark reddish brown wit off-white head. Settles as thin patchy layer of foam. Aroma is kinda spicy. Sweetish with licorice, anis and cinnamon. A little roastiness and a little bitterness. Like cold coffee. Medium carbonation and medium thick palate.
