A new beer, Shropshire Hills Beauty, has been created by the Wood Brewery of Wistanstow, South Shropshire, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The Shropshire Hills was one of the first areas to be designated in 1958, and its primary purpose is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the landscape. The AONB stretches from the Wrekin to the Clun Forest and from the Stiperstones to the Clee hills. Phil Holden, AONB Manager, commented “The Shropshire Hills are a special place. The varied geology has created a diverse landscape with striking hills, rolling farmland and meandering river valleys. The history in these hills, the rich wildlife and vibrant communities enhance the natural beauty and you can see why the Shropshire Hills were designated 50 years ago.” Edward Wood, Managing Director of the Wood Brewery, said “We're deep in AONB country and very proud of our Shropshire Hills heritage, so we were delighted to come up with the beer." The brewery is planning to donate 5p for every pint of Beauty sold towards a project nominated by the AONB partnership. The beer is a 4.2% amber brew with a taste of fruity hops and maltiness and a satisfyingly bitter finish.
