Bittering hops are English Challenger with the flavour and aroma hops being a blend of brewing hops grown not only at our own hopyard but also from the gardens of 3 of our favourite pubs!
This year Hop Harvest contains the following flavour/aroma hops: From the Wibblers Brewery Hopyard - Cascade, Fuggles, Essex Goldings ;-) and Yeoman. From the Bell at Castle Hedingham (www.hedinghambell.co.uk) where they’ve re-planted a hopyard from the 1900’s we’ve got Bramling Cross, Fuggles and WGV (Whitbread Golding Variety) Jim at the Queens Head Burnham-on-Crouch (www.grayandsons.co.uk/queenshburnham.htm) where you can always find a superb pint of our IPA we’ve some Wye Challenger and finally but not least Martin & Maggie from the Station Arms Southminster (www.thestationarms.co.uk) have once again let us have the hops from their pub garden. We’re unsure of the variety but we think they’re Fuggles given where they originally came from.
The 15kg of hops used this year are picked fresh from the bine and within hours added at the end of the boil to give a real fresh hop finish.
