Hard Bop Brown is one of Upright’s hoppiest beers. We picked up a couple bales of hop varieties with the recent harvest that aren’t normally employed here, particularly cascade and centennial, with the intention of making something forward and fun. Gerritt and I decided to make an additional draft-only winter beer apart from the Provision, and settled on a recipe for a strong and hoppy brown ale using our new house yeast strain. It ended up plenty bitter and aromatic, a significant departure from most of our recipes, but still has some semblance of balance from the malty base.
