Common descriptors are
A strong rich dark ale that has its roots in the style of Belgium Trappist beer and from a style that the rich Irish beers like Guinness were developed from. This style evolved in the East end of London where (the story goes) Irish labourers worked on the docks (as Porters) developed a taste for a dark style of beer. On return to Ireland they demanded the same beer they had become used to. The recipe for this beer contains seven different types of malted barley and wheat, also two different types of hops specifically Fuggles and Goldings.
