Common descriptors are
I’ll just say it - our Bitter, if judged by guidelines is more of an Extra Special Bitter. It’s malty. It’s balanced with hops yet more assertively than traditional. It’s boozy at 5.5% ABV for a beer that would be served in an English Pub. But let’s not forget how we do business in America. More! Bigger! For years we have had no problem calling our beloved Bachelor Bitter a Bitter because we are in the US of A. But what if we wanted to take the recipe of our Bachelor Bitter and double it and then inch it up a bit further? Same malts, just in higher proportions. Same hops, yet in more interesting additions and higher IBUs. What if we wanted to barrel age this thing in mixed oak casks of wine, bourbon, and sherry? What if we wanted to hand select the best of these barrels into a small batch blend, bottle it, wax it and offer it to you in our Pub Reserve Series? Whatever would we call it? All of a sudden we were dumbfounded. Could we call it an Imperial Bitter? Our Extra Extra Special Bitter? Our Most Special Love and Care Bitter? So in our creative brainstorming office, where we lay on plush couches drinking bourbon, looking at mood boards, using the most up to date brainstorming apps projected onto large touch screens we answered an important and defining question around this beer. Which was… If this beer was a secret agent, what would its secret agent name be? We give to you…The Specialist.
