Common descriptors are
India Black Ale (IBA) is a young style beer that was first home brewed in America. Its characteristics were later determined and refined by craft brewers.

Basically, it’s an American variety of India Pale Ale, with a special emphasis on dark roasted malt, but with no typical harshness from the almost charcoaled barley seeds, as is the case with the stout style. A medium weight body carries a gentle taste and scent nuances of toasted bread, coffee and dark chocolate, blending with the exotic fruit and citrus tastes of American hops.

The Tektonik brewery has produced an IBA with a hint of roasted biscuit and dark caramel malt. Its distinctive charcoal colour stems from the dehusked and very dark roasted barley malt. Dehusked malt results in the absence of acerbity . This style requires extensive dry hopping in the ripening containers which then further contributes to the full and fresh exotic fruit aroma.

Malts: Pale, caramel, wheat.
Hops: Magnum, Columbus, Styrian Aurora, Cascade.
