Schwarzbier means "black beer" in German. Though never truly black, this very dark brown lager is known for having the roasty character of a stout, but the drinkability of a light lager. It is sometimes called a "black Pils". This style is the inspiration behind the black lagers of Japan. 2007 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner!
