Originally brewed by Gibbs Mew, the Salisbury brewery, in the 1960s at 6.5% abv to commemorate the inauguration of George Reindorp as Bishop of Salisbury. After the brand came into the ownership of Ushers (which was itself acquired by Refresh UK) the recipe was adjusted and the abv was reduced. Subsequently, the brand was acquired by Wadworths, who initially brewed it at the original 1960s abv of 6.5%, before reducing it to 5.5% abv
