Continuing our theme of naming our seasonal beers for 2007 after elements of the brewing process, our beer for March is Grist to the Mill. The malster takes the barley from the farmer and turns it into malt although before it can be used for brewing it needs to be crushed in the grist mill. Some breweries crush their own malt, others take it in already crushed. Pale ale malt (Maris Otter) makes up the bulk of the brew base with a small amount of coloured, wheat and other special malts to make up the recipe which is known as the grist, hence the name Grist to the Mill.

A tawny-coloured bitter with a good balance of malts and hops to give a mellow flavour to the beer.
