I like good beer! Prior to the age of 18, I had probably downed a grand total of 2 beers. Then the Army sent me to Germany and the fun really began! For years, I was what can only be described as a German Pilsner snob--Wurzburger Hoffbrau and Jever Pils are still my sentimental favorites. A few years ago I discovered the Market Cross Pub... actually walked in off the street and saw a Jever Pils. After I cleared the tears of joy from my eyes, it was love! I am now working on my 5th Annual Beer Tour Passport at the MCP. Man, I have payed a lot of money for some really nasty beer! But, alas, I have also broadened my horizons. I am now in about year two of an "IPA phase." My favorite is certainly Smuttynose IPA. I am fortunate to travel a lot for work and I make it a point to sample the local brew wherever I go. IPAs are certainly my thing. Despite the attempts of many of my German friends to convert me, I have never developed a taste for wheat beer--though I do my duty for the Passport and when I travel. Everything else pretty much falls somewhere in between. My mass-produced, lawnmower beer of choice is Bud Select, but during the summer I replace that with Troeg’s Sunshine Pils (seasonal). Don’t ask me. I don’t like regular Bud, but I drink Select when I’ll be operating heavy machinery! ;-) Prost!
