Living in China the last 7 years, I wasn’t a big beer connoisseur until a few years ago, when I met a German mate, Kai, in Beijing. Together with some other friends we went through several beer tastings. At first just a dozen different lagers we could get (US Budweiser came clear last, and that includes losing to Yanjing and Tsingtao, two very weak Chinese beers). From there we did German Pils, Belgian Ales (which made a big surge into Beijing in 2010) a few stouts (couldn’t get many) and then general lager tastings with whatever we could find. Most of those beers were tasted long before joining here, so can’t really add ratings for them now. My favourite beers are general Amber Ales and Belgian Trippels, though I love a good wheat beer in hot weather. Sadly, I joined this website after moving to Wei Hai, a small coastal town in China where there is almost no decent beer to be had. Hope to learn mroe about tasting and add soem ratings whenever I can. [ less ]
