Bayern Kaiser IPL

Brewer: Bayern Brewing
Style: Pilsener / Pils / Pilsner
Alcohol Content: 5.9%
Seasonal: No

Description:
The first limited release was brewed to commemorate Bayern’s 25th Anniversary. Owner/President Jürgen Knöller wanted to brew something to exemplify what 25 years of experience and innovation from German Master Brewers can produce. He decided to create yet another new beer style that is loosely based on the old Bavarian Premium Pilsener, which has a little more body, a little higher alcohol content, a bit darker in color and more hops than the average Pilsener-style beer. Jürgen took his latest innovation a step further and created an Imperial Pilsener Lager or “IPL” (not to be confused with “IPA” - this beer is a bit more sophisticated). This limited edition was brewed using an old decoction technique (seldom used in the industry these days and even different than the method Bayern usually uses). Also, to achieve the hoppy 50 IBUs, three different hops additions were employed: a large amount of German Hallertauer Magnum as flavor hops, and two separate additions of Aurora and First Gold hops for aroma/finishing. With a 5.9% ABV, this filtered lager has been named “Kaiser IPL”, because “Imperial” refers to emperors (Kaiser, the German word for emperor, is derived from the word Caesar). The label used for this 1000 case limited release was created by Monte Dolack, who has created artwork for our labels many times over the years, giving our German beer an essential “touch of Montana”.
