| ladnewton (129), London, England | | March 21, 2011 [ Updated March 18, 2012 ] Signposted to this bar having discovered Cafe Gollem in Raamsteeg is temporarily closed. Welcoming proeflokaal on the Overtoom, offering a good range of mainly Belgian beers on tap and bottle. Seventies music plays in the background, whilst drinkers enjoy the beer range and what reads like good food from the kitchen behind where, incidentally, the staff are allowed to enjoy a drink. There were some very friendly locals and drinkers here, including a girl who spoke the best English I have heard in Holland. Worth a visit. Tram No 1 will take you there from the centraal Station or the Leidseplein. Do visit!
Re-rated after visit on Fri 16th March 2012. Excellent and continuing with its great beer range and lively buzz. Keeps my recommendation! | | JanEric (16), Meppel, Netherlands | | August 9, 2010 Spacious room with a terrace and 22 beers on tap. Quick service from the waitress. Didn’t try the food. At a busy location just outside the city centre, only 5 minutes walking from Leidseplein. | | dutchbeerpages (36), Wilnis, Netherlands | | June 8, 2010 Very much a student bar. I was there on pub quiz monday which was fun. Quite a good selection, about 22 on tap, 6 of those changing. They also served their own beer. Of all the Gollem cafes by far the roomiest. Located just out of downtown. | | Borresteijn (97), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | December 14, 2009 Visited on a friday night, it’s now called Gollem’s Proeflokaal. Like Martin said, quite stylish, but still cozy. Quite a lot of tables, also for dinner (special of the day for €16,-). Staff is attentive, but not too familiar with the beers. Prices of the tap beers are around €3,50, bottles are a bit overpriced but still all around €4. Nothing special selection-wise, except maybe for the Tsjeeses Reserva, but nice to just meet some friends and have some good beers like Westmalle Dubbel from tap, but not a bar to go out of your way for. | | altonbrownd (146), Brussels, Belgium | | October 1, 2009 I must say I was quite dissapointed. The 4 beers I had sought out on their website (3*liefmans abdis and a dentergems wit) haven’t been served in more than a year. Second they had just been bought by Gollem, and although they now have a wider selection there isn’t a single beer you can’t get at the other well-known pubs and shops in Amsterdam. So nothing unique. That said, it is quite stylish and the do have all 3 Westvleteren for relatively cheap. | | dec23 (12), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | August 16, 2009 [ Updated October 7, 2009 ] A neat big place just outside the very centre of Amsterdam with a few nice features. First and foremost they have 22 taps. Most of the beer on tap is not so interesting usually, but among 22 there is usually a gem or two. Second, they have regular evenings with live jazz music, trivia quizzes and other nice extra activities. Furthermore it has a nice outside seating area which is ok despite being next to a major street, and it has a spacious second seating area for smokers inside. The selection is something which prompts the conclusion that it was not really conceived by beer afficionadoes but by people commercially running a beer-pub and doing their homework on what to have on stock. It features good staples but comes across as a bit uninspired. Staff are nice and attentive but some are a bit overenthusiastic ... I had a boy tell me that Leffe Blond on tap was really something. |
