What a fabulous place! A defunct, big, old monastery near the banks of the Mosel river, with a literally huge patio bordering a herbal garden, with a backdrop of hills covered with lush greenery. Impressive, well designed interior joining tradition with modernity, very tasty traditional German food, excellent service and superb beers in classic German styles. Possibly the best beer-related venue in the whole Mosel area, where you can have a bite of that old traditional German flair.

Big monastery on the Mosel. There's a nice cafe, restaurant, and beer shop, plus a old toy museum and a chapel. The beer garden in the courtyard looked nice, but it didn't suit the rainy day we visited. The servers in the cafe were friendly and quick, and the employee in the beer shop was quick and efficient. Apparnetly, they do tasting in the beer shop, which I didn't figure out until after I'd tried the beer in the cafe. The prices are very reasonable - ?€5 for the tasting, ?€3,50 euros for a half liter in the cafe, and ?€1,50 for the bottles in the shop. They just had their standard three beers when I visited, but they are tasty. Overall, this is a fun place to visit. Very scenic, with good beer.

A huge building and quite confusing where to go to have a beer. The food was nice but there was a commemoration and all the waiters were a bit stressful. But they were nice although missed an order. The beer and the company was good though.

Beautifully situated in an old monastery on the banks of the Mosel, the brewpub offers a wonderful place for a hungry and thirsty visitor. The beer garten is simply huge, and in case the weather forbids enjoying it, you can relax in the stylish interior. The staff are nice and friendly, even though they do not sell samples. I haven’t tried the food but judging by the looks of what was on my neighbours plate, it should not leave much to be desired. Definitely a place worth a visit.

I visited the Kloster Machern on a wet Monday lunchtime (June 2007) with my wife and three people with walking difficulties. This review has therefore, to be taken with a pinch of salt. The whole set up is very impressive (see the website), but it wasn’t all open when we went. We went straight to the brewhouse and I got two bottles of each beer they brew (helle, dunkell and wiess) from a chap who was cleaning the brewing equipment. Sadly the main drinking room (brauhaus) was closed. We found the wine stube, a smart, light, airy room with a bar in it. The had the helle and wiess on tap, which were both in good order. The ladies in my party had coffee and cakes; they were also fine, according to the girls. The young lady that served us was lovely, didn’t much like her sour faced female overseeing person though. The car/coach park is huge and there are hundreds of tables on the well kept lawns, all empty on our day, but it must fill up at weekends and sunny days. I will revisit one day, hopefully when the whole place is available for me to enjoy. I want to attack the real menu and drink in the bar I can see on the website.

Been here a few times when driving through the area. Also attended a going away party here. Great atmosphere!! Food menu is pretty good and the beer is pretty decent as well. I’ll continue to stop if I’m in the area. Pretty cool place!!!

Beautiful location on the Mosel river. Have a nice menu of regional food with their own beers. Ample parking and lots of room outside for kids to run around. Very nice - definitely worth a visit.

Went here with my family for a Christmas party. I was impressed with the size and ambiance of the place. It was very cozy (I’m sure the fireplace helped). Their was a descent variety of food but the quality was mediocre at best. The beer brewed on premises is excellent! I highly recommend the hell. The only beers served were their own brews and three selections of alcoholfrei (Bitburger and two others). I didn’t have a chance to visit the store or the museum unfortunately. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would recommend others to check it out.
