andre1 (3), , Estonia does not count - explanation | | April 3, 2012 Good ambience , central location , too hot inside in summer. | | ElDesmadre (20), Mikołów, Poland | | December 15, 2011 Decent food, a bit kitschy interior and overcrowded (and this is, after all, a restaurant so it makes a difference), "Dobre Pifko" seems to be the same beer as Zlaty Bazant, so it’s misleading. There are many better places to hang out in Bratislava. | | 3fourths (959), Boulder, Colorado | | December 1, 2011 kvasnicovy zlaty 12 and the zlaty tmavy 13 on tap are probably the best options. like others have said, it’s a big ex-pat hangout so you’ll hear english spoken all around you, but the decor is nice enough with each room designed around a different era in Slokav culture. food was good, but I only came here to try the halusky, which, while good, tasted basically like mac and cheese. | | YULbier (209), Brno, Czech Republic | | November 6, 2011 Huge expats hangout, as featured in Lonely Planet. Serve Zlaty Bazant 10 svetle in tank and Zlaty Bazant 12 tmave which are not bad. The other beers, as well as the food, are forgettable. Kitsh interior, unlocked free wifi. | | Cuso (82), Bratislava, Slovak Republic | | October 17, 2011 I would never recommend this pub to anyone, there are much better choices near Obchodna. Beers are poor, Dobre pifko isn’t their own beer, it’s brewed in Heineken Slovakia. Food is expensive and not so well prepared. Service is slow and arrogant. | | alagnak (48), Littleton, Colorado | | April 22, 2011 Interesting multi-room pub just outside the old center. Not much in the way of selection, but carried most of the local brews, inluding, as noted, a couple that are only served to students. Food menu was expansive, and our bryndzove halusky was tasty. Most ofthe menu is made with food from the pub’s own farm. Younger, college-age crowd. Recommended. | | flying_pig (23), , Scotland | | March 4, 2011 Nice nice little pub with some of the nicest food in the city - although thats not really that hard to achieve. A decent beer selection compared to other places in the Bratislava and I had no complaints about the staff. | | hirigalzkar (45), ENSKEDE, Sweden | | October 17, 2010 Really great pub/retaurant! Cosy atmosphere, excellent central european food and perfect service. The beer list is neither very long nor anything special, although their own beers are OK and goes great with the food. | | Dorqui (103), Brescia, Italy | | August 18, 2010 Truly excellent. Pub situated on the great walk way Obchodná, easy to catch up and right in the city center. Enormous atmosphere, similar to a labirinth with a great variety of rooms, some much large with long tables, others much small and quit. English menu fortunately. Griendly staff, very kindly. Modest chosen of beer (Slovak and Czech) but altogether splendid great place. | | Dogbrick (423), Columbus, Ohio | | June 18, 2010 (Visited 04/2009): 1. Slovak Pub is located in Bratislava on Obchodná which is a relatively busy street of shops and bars/restaurants. It is not too far from Hurbanovo námestie. Not sure what the parking situation is but it is walkable from the port.
The outside looks a little on the seedy side, and once you walk in you go up a flight of stairs to enter the pub. The interior is segmented into several rooms, all of which seem to allow smoking. Most of the seating is in large wooden tables.
The beer selection is average. They carry two house beers called Dobré Pifko (10 & 12%) which I believe translates to "student beers", in other words you have to be a student to drink them. They also carry some of the other common beers from the region like Kaiser and Zlaty Bazant (Golden Pheasant).
Service was about what you would expect considering neither we nor the server spoke each other’s language. Somehow we were able to order the student beers though, so mission accomplished. Aside from that, the very common practice of taking forever to get your drinks and check was in effect. However the fact that after all the struggling the server charged the student price made it worth the effort.
We did not try any of the food but the menu seemed fairly robust.
Overall this place is worth seeking out if only for the fact that it appears to be the only brewpub in Bratislava. |
