Great selection for a charleston establishment plus the grub is pretty tasty!

Smoky Oak is mandatory for people who like barbecue and beer. It can get busy at night but we never saw it slammed to the point of irritation. The tap list is extensive and surprisingly well chosen. Every week they tap one keg they claim no one else in Charleston has. I saw Ballast Point smoked lager and Great Divide wood aged IIPA on draft just for an example of some offerings you won’t find elsewhere in town. No beer lover should have any problem finding something satisfying to drink here. The food is absolutely delicious. The barbecue. . .oh my God. The tender ribs, pulled pork and brisket are on par with the best of the best. The sauces and the intensely delicious hash put a meal form Smoky Oak over the top. We had the bacon-wrapped smoked crab stuffed jalapenos. Jesus, I don’t know if I deserve to consume food that good. The only let down was the Smoky Oak pizza. Out of all the delicious sauces they have, this one is heftily topped with a very sweet, tomatoey sauce. That one thing just ruined the otherwise heavenly dish. I try to score these restaurants mainly on beer selection, otherwise the mind-blowing barbecue would bias my overall score of this place even higher. I will be back, Smoky Oak. I will be back.

A great local establishment to enjoy some fine craft brews. Sample trays are available if you can’t decide and they always use the proper glassware. The staff really seems to know their stuff about what they are serving. Prices are very reasonable and the BBQ ain’t half bad!
