Ship Inn

Visited on Sunday afternoon, 20th Sep 2020. Lovely sunny day, nice foodie pub. Friendly staff, even though we were not eating, it wasn't a problem. Spotlessly clean, airy and bright; upstairs has an open air balcony but that was full on our visit. Three hand-pulls with Thwaites beers on, decent keg selection, but nothing new for me, a few bottles but again nothing for me to get excited about. The cask beers were in good condition and we really enjoyed our hour in here.

Bistro with a vague nautical theme, and incredibly chatty staff who had lots of pointers about beer in town. 4 hand pulls, containing 2 Thwaites ticks, but alas they weren't on the best of form, and it didn't seem like a place with a lot of rotation. We were heading the Chester Beer and wines, it was obligatory to pop in.

Just across the single-laned Handbridge to the main city centre, this is a pub that aspires to a higher end of the customer scale and gets a fair mix of locals and tourists who’s walk along the river ends here. The style is traditional but is almost entirely wooden in style and design and furniture which gives it its unique look at least within the city centre. Food is a reason many come here but it’s possible and comfortable enough to come here just for drinks and a row of real ale pumps with craft options means it’s not that different from other drinking holes despite its restaurant tag. I was here on a sunny Sunday afternoon and it was packed as a live folk band was playing. Unfortunately there is no outdoor area which it badly needs.

Lovely wooden finished pub with a good selection of cask ale and food.
