A convenience store (it really is a mini-mart) looking place that is full of singles perfect for the traveling beer geek. A little bit of talking with what seemed to be the beer guy and he made sure I was walking out of there with a nice sample of Texas’ finest, including a batch one (non-farmhouse) of Black metal he pulled out of the back for me.

If I end up back in the Houston area, I know I will be stopping back here. Value wasn’t even a consideration, as I really didn’t pay too much attention to the prices, and it even seemed like I got a price break and he even offered up some free schwag.

a great place... run by an awesome dude .. . great selection of singles.. . prices are only a buck or two more than specs, but this place is legit.. great GREAT glass selection .. . and growlers, 4 taps of cool items... a must stop!!

Wow, I was shocked upon entering this place. It looks like a little old mini mart, but it’s full of beer inside! And good beer! It’s a bit more expensive than Spec’s, but there are some gems in there that Spec’s doesn’t carry, and they all come in singles. Really glad I found it, and the owners were really cool to boot.

On the outside you would never even give this place a look, but it’s the best hidden beer jem and definitely the most friendly beer store in Houston, but it doesnt end there. Awesome selection of bottles from all around with the option of buying singles on pretty much all of them! Huge selection of branded beer glasses priced very reasonably, four beers on tap to take home in growlers and a lovely owner who can appreciate good beer and good customers, and is glad to give out recommenations. Prices are slightly higher than the mega shops, but thats totally understandable and anyway it’s much more satisfying to leave your money at the small businesses.

The best beer store in Houston in my opinion. They don’t have the wine or spirits selection that the downtown Specs has, but the beer selection is better. They also have four taps that they fill growlers of (any growler) and have a staff that is very friendly and very knowledgeable.

One of the best bottle shops in the state with huge wall of singles, pretty much any beer available statewide, nice well priced glassware selection also

Small, hole-in-the-wall beer shop that looks almost like a gas station from the outside, minus the pumps. The owner is really nice and friendly and will always make suggestions on what you should try based on what you’ve purchased before and will often offer special beers that he doesn’t put out on display. He is always getting in different beers from all over the place and prices them fairly. Definitely my local beer store in Houston.

How is D&Q not already in the database here? From the outside it looks like any other independent convenience store but inside is an awesome beer mecca. On price and overall selection they can’t compete with the much better known Spec’s Warehouse but unlike Spec’s they sell just about everything they carry as singles and rare items tend to stay on the shelves a bit longer. Also a huge selection of pint and other branded beer glasses. It’s also only a couple miles from Spec’s so after browsing and bulk-buying there, swing by D&Q for a few oddities and a couple BYO 6-packs.
