Has a case for being the best pub in Leeds. An old workmans yard pub with lots of history and very little modernity. Serves a good range of Sam Smiths at exceptional prices. Clientel is a mixture of young renegades and salt of the earth. My rating suffers a little now I live in Sheffield as the quality of pubs is just higher than Leeds.

Hidden down an alleyway. A typical Sam Smith's pub with 2.30 a pint of stout. No wifi

Located in an alley right in the busy city centre but still with a local, community feel. A fairly traditional British pub with one open room, a bar room, more seating upstairs and outdoor seating in the passageway. Good range of Samuel Smith beers on bottles and on 13 taps - no wonder that I got almost every missing ticks from the brewery. Very good value. Friendly service, music free, and a relaxed atmosphere. (Visited with Steinar 04.07. and once more the next day, 2017)

After visiting four or five dozen provincial Sam Smiths pubs with little joy in finding the Yorkshire Stingo bottle at them, I specifically targeted this city centre pub with the view that this is the best place to go, I wasn’t disappointed, indeed they have the full range of their regular keg and bottles available for sale. The lady behind the bar even tried to talk me out of buying it! "You know it costs nine pound odd...", I explained it was a one off purchase, "At these prices it should be."!!!!!!!! The pub itself is a little difficult to find down an alleyway either off the pedestrian shopping street of Briggate, or preferably Lands Lane (as you can see it from there), which runs parallel to Briggate on its western side. The inside is suitably period in style and elegant for it across a number of rooms on two levels. The main bar is downstairs although a second one exists upstairs that probably only opens when it’s very busy. Outside are a number of picnic tables in the alleyway that leads to the door from Lands Lane. Food is served here.

A Samuel Smith pub so the beer is cheap, my fav the cask bitter is a steal at £1.30 a pint. Like all sammy smith pubs the building has a old school feel to it tucked in a little alleyway just off brigate highstreet. A great place to get away from the busy shoppers and sit down in front a warm fire. The cheap price of drinks does attract alot of ’characters’ to the pub which can be very entertaining depending on your mood.

Off a dark, unmarked alley off of one of Leeds main pedestrian shopping streets, Briggate, blink and you’d miss it. The Angel is a Samuel Smith pub. Those who know can stop reading now. No music, no frills, no over priced beer, no big name soft drinks. Just a great selection of Sam Smith beer at good prices. Once you find it, the atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious. Beer selection as i recall Organic (bottled), Pure Brew and Alpine Largers, Nut Brown and Old Brewer Ales on tap plus a few other in bottles i couldn’t read. If your a fan of great beer its defo a place to sniff out when in Leeds (esp. when shopping!).
