I'm a cap collector and if you are too this place is a bonanza motherlode. Go here for the soda and candy and stay for a super-decent selection of beer and glassware. There's no place like Galco's.

This place is kind of a blast from the past. And I dig it. As the name implies, they really focus on specialty sodas. I first heard about this place because they are one of the few stores that carry Mr. Q Cumber soda. They have tons of all different kinds of soft drinks from all over the place. It’s worth a stop for that alone. Though things seem sort of haphazardly arranged in the store...whatever. Lots of old school candies, too.

Beer selection is not the best, but they do carry some good stuff. A lot of Belgian and German imports, some Japanese beers and random Eastern European lagers as well. The selection of US craft beers is a bit lacking compared to great bottle shops that most people frequent. But they have a number of cooler doors with six packs and some singles. I didn’t notice any real obscure or special offerings, but the standbys were all present.

I’d recommend coming here just for the fact that it’s an LA institution and there aren’t many places like this around.

Great local institution. You can buy singles without getting the stink eye. Balanced between foreign and domestic. Selection is good. Could be more local choices but all in all a good place to have around.

First time I came here, I must admit, I came in for soda, not beer. That soon changed ... Service is good, although some of the people working there don’t know much about the beers. Selection is pretty good, you get a lot of everything, but no really rare beers. Food is actually pretty decent in the back. Remember to order double meat on your sandwich, they pack it in there! Prices tend to be slightly (again, slightly) higher than at chain stores but the selection here is far surpassing them. Plus you don’t need to buy an entire sixer. You can take a bottle out of the six pack and each is individually priced. Awesome! Overall a cool place that I enjoy going back to again and again.

I love walking in here and browsing for soda. I wish the beer was as ambitiously selected. Lots of foreign beers but few if any unusual finds - and I don’t know who thinks there are real ales here... Place could use some decoration and I don’t even know if people actually go to the deli counter in the back. Been there for 100 years so it’s worth the trip.

What a strange place! An old grocery store dominated by mostly candy, soda pop, and beer. A nice long isle devoted to imports and another devoted to national stuff. Plenty to choose from and everything is available as a single bottle which seems rare for LA. Quite a lot of mediocre stuff on the shelf, but a few gems to be found as well.

what a great find.this store is famous for their hundreds of different kinds of soda, but most people don’t know they sell hundreds of beers.A decent selection all seperated by country.More of the macros are cold and micros are not.Not a fancy store by all means but worth checking out.The staff was friendly and willing to help. For a small fee they will box it up for you and ship it to you.Shipping is a bit pricey but thats UPS for you.
