Turned up ’out the blue’ on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Sept 2008 and joined a brewery trip organised by a bunch of beer lovers from Brussels (thanks lads). They translated for me too, as Danny Prignon only does French (I think). The bar it’s self is very rustic and basic. There is motorbike above your head and a ghost is hanging around the door. The little garden/grass area at the front has one large oblong table, which appeared to be for the family. There is a very small terrace at the back, otherwise you sit in the main bar room with its bar, fridge and stairway to the brewery. I had the summer special, which was the standard Blanche with grapefruit juice added (Blanche Pampelmouse). The girls had the standard Fantom Saison, the only other beer on tap. As an aside, I couldn’t believe how much sugar he added to the beers, an incredible ammount in my opinion, but his beers are great, so what do I know?

It was really nice, meeting Dany, chatting with him about beer and brewing. Trying out some of the beers he had in stock and on tap, then chatting away with the regulars in the bar. It made for a very pleasant afternoon after the disappointments at Achouffe, Inter-Pol and 3 Fourquets. I’ll definitely come back!

Souvenir mémorable, brasserie de charme ardennais et un maître-brasseur atypique. Visite et dégustation sur place conseillées. J’y retournerai volontier

Visited on a Saturday during our recent trip to Belgium. Emails were exchanged with Dany ahead of time and he said to show up at 2 on a Saturday and he would show us around. Drive from Brussels took us about an hour and the area was absolutely stunning. Tons of farm land and nice little local town we hit up just before hitting the brewery. Dany along with his sister and mom showed up and got the tasting room opened up then invited us in. Two beers on draft, the Noel and standard Saison. We got one of each then followed Dany into the back and he gave us the tour of his brewery from start to finish. We talked about his most recent contract brew, Magic Ghost, and he told us his solution for making it green as requested. We asked him if we could buy any and he only had a couple of things available in bottles, but said he had a keg and happily put it on for us to try. What a treat that was! The Ghost is serious grooving! We ended up finishing our beers and then buying some bottles to take home. Great experience and one of the top highlights of my Belgium trip. Thanks again Dany!

Another one of those places that leave me going home happy but also proud of living in Wallonia. Great ride to Soy after a stop in Hotton for some shopping. Typical Belgian Ardennes village, not sure how one rater sees it as French. A matter of opinion, but my family is from the region, and it sure ain’t French. Fantome is a perfect 100 to me for it embodies what I love about a place where the brewer loves what he does, and does it because of the beer. Service, Dany is there, welcoming, a little reserved, his family helps around or is there at the brewery. Plenty of conversation about the region, the beer, etc. Dany definitely is a man of the region and will gladly chat about antyhing even not beer related. Atmosphere, beautiful region, small village, friendly customers, chat with locals, beside a few cars driving by, it’s quiet and typical of the countryside of that region. You can park by the church down the road and even go for walks or bike rides. That’s what I love about great brewery atmosphere. Simple yet effective. Price. How can you beat 6 bottles for 20€? and cheap draft beer. Selection? Two draft beers, three beers usually available in bottles ... perfect for the batch size Fantôme brews.

I’m not a fan of their beers, yet Fantome is dear to me. The little shack is charming, and it now even has a playground, so you can bring your kiddies! A must do for anyone who thinks that being experimental is the highest possible (and in case of fantome, only) achievement for a brewery, and for anyone happening to pass Soy

located in a village in the Ardennes which looks more French than Belgian, same goes a bit for the place which is very cosy, rustic & inviting, really a place where you could stay a long time, rather easy to find with the car because there a signs which guide you right to the place itself & you really cannot miss the ghost on the outside, there are two beers on tap, their regular saison & a rotating special which was the Magic Ghost when I was there, you can also get big bottle both to go & I assume to drink there if you want but not sure since I wanted to take mine with me, they had 3 different beers in bottles, Brise Bonbons, Pissenlit & the regular Saison, not much in the way of food except for sausages & cheese, service was nice, prices were good 2,5 for the beers on tap & 4 for the bottles, the places itself is very nice & the beers that they have a great but it could really benefit from a bigger selection but otherwise there is really nothing bad to say about this place

An essential visit. Ramshackle and atmospheric in the best Belgian tradition. Beer is the excellent regular Fantome plus whatever weird concoctions are currently being brewed. Excellent service from Dany and his wife. Highly recommended. Be warned that the published opening hours are purely theoretical.

What a blast! It was great to meet Dany, the brew master, and listen to all his stories and anecdotes about his tiny brewery. Selection is just limited to fresh brews, which are oh-so delicious! It’s located in the middle of nowhere, but definitely worth the ride/search.
