60 Inexpensive Czech/Slovak beer cafe in the heart of one of Sydney’s major backpacker districts. At time of writing there were 20 bottled beers from central Europe here and none cost more than $5.50 a bottle - most were around the $4.00 - $4.50 mark. (Visit the website for more beer details.) However, there was nothing on offer that dedicated local beer hunters won’t have tracked down elsewhere. The beer list was as follows: on tap - Krusovice Imperial; in bottles: Pilsner Urquell, Budvar, Zlatopramen 11, Krusovice Imperial and Cerne, Breznak Svetly Lezák, Kozel Dark, Gold Bohemia Lager (all Czech); Zywiec Jasne Pelne (Poland), Dreher Bak and lager (Hungary); Topvar 11.5% and Primator 12% (Slovak Republic). Guest beers were more expensive at around the $7 mark. These were Erdinger Weissbier, Schofferhoffer Weissbier, Schwelmer Pils (all German) and Huyghe Floris Griotte (Belgium). The food is a real central European meatfest - smoked pork neck, roast pork belly, roast duck, smoked sausage. Vegetarians are left with various crumbed cheeses and vegetables. There is covered outdoor seating. It’s a restaurant, rather than a bar, but you can sit outside and sip a few brews with a snack or two. Postscript: according to their website, they have trimmed the beer list pretty savagely. I’d check (see URL above) see if it’s worthwhile before going. |
